I noticed in Event Viewer I have a lot of Event ID with this message:
What is this and how to get rid of it?
Would this have anything to do with the fact that my laptop is overclocked from 3.8 GHz. to 4 GHz.?

It could be the OC, you could try running for a while without the overclock to see.

confirmed, it was indeed from that 200 MHz. overclock of the Alienware OC Level 1
no more overclocking for mePapusan likes this. -
I strongly suspect it's because the factory OC used incorrect settings or too high of a voltage. I'm sure you'll get lots of helpful advice on how to properly OC your 4810MQ on the Alienware forums.

Update, even without overclocking, and on another fresh Windows 7 Installation, that error is back, I don't know what else to do. I didn't even do any system tweaks.

From what I have seen across the web is that the CPU is causing the issue at low level cache. While the CPU might have been that weak it is possible the OC could have toasted the CPU. I am not there so there is no way to say this is a 100% certainty but it looks to be the case. To be sure though check your CPU in device manager, be sure the drivers are correct.

That is why there is factory support, give them a ring to let them determine the issue and replace the CPU if need be.

You might want to post about this in the AW forums to warn people about potentially damaging their CPUs with the factory OC.

Try again with xtu
-
The thing is if it errors at stock clock. So long as stock is stable the CPU should be OK and it may be time to look elsewhere.

Oh and something else I did differently, The Samsung Magician OS Tweaks, I used to always choose reliability, this time I chose Performance instead.
Mind you, even without applying any Samsung Magician OS tweaks before the error was coming but maybe the Performance OS Optimization tweaks does something to the cache settings that prevents this error? who knows.
-
There used to be, buried in the registry, OS settings for L1, L2 and even L3. If the Samsung magician is trying to set these improperly then it could well be your issue. As an example having it set to reliability could just make it think the L1 is smaller, or larger, than it is then executing code it is waiting for a result from speedy L1 where the code is stuck in L2 or visa versa.
Edit; from the web page

As I said, even without applying any Samsung Magician OS Optimizations, the error came up, somehow, setting it to performance, resolves the issue.
Wish I had more detail but I'm a noobie when it comes to these thingspapusan likes this. -
OK but was it installed with no optimizations applied?
Edit; it could be that it works as a ram cache, this where reliability forces direct r/w from the PCI device to CPU and performance forces r/w to ram without flushing the ssd. Sorry trying to explain without getting to tech for the casual users lurking. -

1) AlienAutopsy
2) Default Windows Settings, where in this case, Samsung Magician's Performance OS Tweaks fixed the cache problempapusan likes this. -

The error came back again, so I requested for a CPU replacement from DELL and sent them the screenshots. Let's see

Hi
Dell will sure wait to replace the processor, they'll probably try to replace the heatsink and fan first. I argued with Dell to make the switch to a new processor as the one I had never managed to complete a Cinebench 11.5 test. Dell would replace the heatsink and fan instead. They tested ePSA test and said everything was fine. I tested instead Cinebench 11.5 and laptop crashed. It was first then they would switch processor. They did not have my i7-4900mq in stock and they said I had to wait a bit. I asked if they had an extreme processor in stock that I could get instead, and they said they had one. That's why I have a i7-4930mx now and that works brilliantly on my Alienware 17.
Remember and run real benchmark tests instead of nonsense ePSA test technicians coming to and run on your laptopalexhawker and Ferris23 like this. -

Hi Ferris23, Im getting exactly same errors in event viewer, i have i7-4800mq. How does it look like after CPU replacement ?

I'll update this thread once I get it to know if this is a hardware problem with the CPU or is that something normal that we have to live with -

did you check your event log to make sure you don't have it as well? check the section of errorspapusan likes this. -
I7-4810 and 4800 series of this processor is quite similar. I have tested out different overclocking adjustments with some wrong choices and have had bsod but no such messages in event log.

They are gonna check with their engineering team and revert back to meh -
There could be a main board issue where the internal caps just can not supply enough clean power to the CPU. All electronic components have a tolerance, you could have just enough of them on the bad end of the tolerance(s) to where you have an issue. This kind of problem would present itself just as if the CPU itself were bad.
Edit; I should note this issue can also exist in power bricks where the error occurs under AC but not under battery. Another symptom of this is where the brick cuts out and battery takes over, even in severely short bursts.Ferris23 likes this. -
I have checked another ac adapter or even tested unit on battery only - same error message. It doesn't matter if CPU is OC or not - error appears in both scenarios. I wonder if this is something that we should worry about because my laptop works fine, without any issues. Message appears once per 2-3 days and it mainly appears right after boot.
-
If it only appears the one time, and that is while booting, then it is possible the system has not properly settled (at that moment) with the profiles and voltages. if it appears once the system has settled in then it could be a concern. It does seem the error is catchable by the OS.

With Windows 7, I tried both the Alienware Windows 7 SP1 disc and even a Microsoft Windows 7 SP1 Genuine DVD that I have, both have the issue. Seems like this laptop isn't really fully compatible with Windows 7 despite the drivers being available? Coz it originally shipped with Windows 8.1 which I formatted and never used since day 1papusan likes this. -
There should not be any error messages on this laptop no matter if you use Win 7 or 8.1. -

Nope, Just tried BIOS A05, no joy, I am gonna continue researching, I have to fix this! Since it's not a hardware issue as we saw there is no issue in Windows 8.1, then there must be a fix!
The issue is not driver related, happens upon every reboot with 2 errors the moment I see the Windows desktop after installation.Papusan likes this. -
One more thing:
You can maybe use previous Chipset drivers from Intel, which might be more adapted to win 7. Win 7've been long in use with Older drivers with no problem.
Edit: It is strange that you are one of the few who have this problem, yet you have a new clean install of Windows and use the correct drivers.Ferris23 likes this. -

Hmm, very strange, I just applied the pre-set OC LEVEL 1 overclocking profile and have done 2 reboots so far and the error didn't appear! Can it be that the tweaked BIOS / CPU / Power settings may have fixed this? Will monitor this for another 24 hours and report back! I am glad I am getting somewhere with this!

1 hour and no error still! I only wanna use XTU if I have to, I prefer not having programs on startup that need to adjust my hardware's settings. If the default OC Level 1 profile is working fine, then let it be....

nope, error is back, I give up, I just have to live with it since I am not getting any real errors in Windows

Coming messages without laptop use resources?
Do you have the opportunity and use Alienautopsy for and see what error messages you get there? If there is a problem with your hardware or software you will see the log in this software. It logs all error messages you get. In post # 35, I wrote something that could be worth and watch. I think you should try Alieautopsy for and log messages for a few days. What do you think of that? -
There is a ms fix for id 10. Did you try that?
Just google event id 10 fix and voila.
What is this Event ID 10 error?
