I come to visit a friend a few times a year and I clean up her computer for her as she knows zilch about computers. (Her technique to deal with a glitch--pull the plug of the computer -- wait 2 hours and then plug it back in... lol)

Her computer was running slower than molasses. It is over 5 years old, limited capability. I took off Norton Utilities and that sped it up everything tremendously.

Now I ma trying to get rid of other stuff at start-up:

What is tuao.exe? It is in the start-up folder when I run msconfig.

No info on it in Google on that one. Try disabling it in msconfig, reboot, and see what happens.

It won't help because the system got hijacked. If the OP clicks on the link I provided it goes in depth on how to get rid of it.

    1. Boot in safe mode.

    2. Run anti-spyware and virus scanners.

    3. If all fails back up everything and freshly install Windows.
