I agree on the whole McAffee suck thing. All my computers used to run on McAf. Then one computer start going haywire. Installed Norton and did a scan on all computer. Found out McAf missed a couple the whole we were using it. I got like 4 desktop and 2 laptop on Norton now. Only one desktop is on 24/7 and it's pretty beefy system. I don't get the whole slow down thing.

Kaspersky for me, ever since i saw that AV compare... Very surprising some of the results...like how can you miss almost 15% of dangerous objects?

I'm using Avast Pro, as they update their virus library database on a daily basis and don't have release dates. Uses very little system resources and its interface is simple and to the point.

Kudos to folks over at Avast~!!!

I used to use McAfee, then I tried out Norton and thought it was the best, until I realized how much it slowed down my systems using it, and it was just too annoying. How you ask? System instability, that's how it was annoying.

    Go AVAST~!!!

    Cheers,
    Mike

Everyone here seems to have lots of Antivirus programs.

Myself? I dont use any *smile*

My computers performance is already perfect the way it is, don't need a system hogging anti-virus program to pick up the fact that in the last 4 years, I have never gotten a virus.

Never say Never becasue i virus will not never come becasue you never got antivirus.
There are free programs out there, i virus/trojan will eventually come. Espeacially the Spyware if your not using Firefox.

i've been using mcafee v9 for almost a year..been good so far..v10 is a little screwy though..disabled itself when i had it installed..gonna have to look for another antivirus software once v9 expires.

I've been using the trial version of TrendMicro's Pc-cillin for the last month now. It's honestly my fav so far out of the 4 I've tried (Norton, Mcafee, & Zonealarm being the other three). I've run this i9300 with and without, and this is the first AV of the four that has caused almost no noticable slowdown at startup/shutdown, and barely a hiccup when updating (kudos on the lighning fast DLs from TrendMicro :)). I never thought I'd consider paying almost $60/year for AV, but I'm pretty sold on Pc-cillin now.

Norton here. I have 4 PCs, each running a different version (2004, 2003, 2000). I even have the DOS version of NAV running on one of my machines. Just tradition I guess.

I use NOD32, and have done so for the last 3-4 years. Before that, I was using Norton, but I found out Norton was letting some viruses in :(

My PCs been clean (touch wood  ) since installing NOD :)

Well after actually discovering the need for an anti-virus on a notebook that is often changing networks :p I now use the Norton Antivirus Corporate, which seems fine. Uses no where near as many resources as the normal home version, and has no where as many intrusive pop-ups.

McAfee VirusScan Enterprise Edition 8i, this works very well for me. paired with zone labs zone alarm pro firewall and microsoft defender (anti spyware) my system is secured and its very rare that i get infected.

plus i like the on-access scanner.

I've been using TM PC-Cillin 2006 for about a month now as we are a TM reseller. Very nice, does all the spy ware stuff good too, nothing extra that ad-aware, spybot or ms antispy can pick up.

Nod32 for me. Used to have Norton Internet Security. My subscription ran out after 3 months, and even after that it was incredibly hard to get rid of. Had to go through the registry settings and remove everything pertaining to Norton and Symantec. Very annoying. But in the end, I got it sorted.

For the heck of it, removed Norton 2003 from this laptop and installed Nod32. PC seemed to be running a bit faster (at least during boot).

Did a simple test by downloading a trojan that Norton blocked a few days ago. What do you know? Nod32 let it through. I actually let the trojan install its pesky files. Nod32 still hasn't detected it. Only when the trojan tried to download something from the web did Nod32 say something.

    Using updated definitions from today.

Not perfect. Then again, no antivirus can be perfect, since new threats come out all the time and someone has to update the databases. It's almost trivial if you think of it that some programs will detect threats that others won't and the other way around.

So what do you do? Install 10 antivirus programs? They'll conflict with each other. Install the one that takes the least resources and cross your fingers that it'll also get the job done? Possibly. Install the one that you're most used to and comfortable with? Probably.

AVG Free all the way! It protects your system for free! The only down side is you have to manually remove any viruses it finds. It does not bog your system down and ,oh yeah, it's free!

Is AVG free for life? Or does it expire after a certain period of time?

I currently have Norton, and at times, I do think it does more harm then good (as posted in the very first post in this thread). Now the thing is telling me I don't have authority to change my own settings?! Messed up, kind of just 'there', it is.

AVG is free for as long as Grisoft wants it to be. As long as Grisoft continues supporting it, then it'll continue to be free. The virus database is always updated daily and has prevented my computer from being infected in 5 or 6 occasions. However it didn't detect one virus on one occasion.

    I use Symantec Coporate Edition
    VERY VERY POWERFUL
It has real time virus scanning (like how It saved my PC from brother's dumb use of a search engine and clicking on of odd links ahhh adware :( )
Runs scanning discretely and doesn't suck CPU power
It has automatic update (that it does discretely)
I only have a 500 MHz PIII and with a full-power scan going I can still run multiple chat windows and be ripping music without a HUGE slow-down
So add Symantec to the Poll :D

Just a quick point for the people who say things such as "I have never had a virus"...

    How would you know?

You may be right but the best viruses will have practically no symptoms.
