I don't back up. I live on the dangerous side. :p I do back my stuff up to DVDs every once and a while. I want to get a external hard drive to store my data.

I backup periodically to an external hard drive using Norton Ghost. Every month or so I'll archive critical files to a DVD using Roxio Easy Media Creator. I tried Nero, but found it very user unfriendly.

I use Acronis True Image for doing an Image backup. It will also Clone a drive if you are upgrading to a larger drive and also does individual files and folders, but some people run into problems with these features.

For Cloning I use CasperXP. And for individual files and folders I simply copy them to my external hard drive.

I use the Retrospect that came with my Maxtor external HD. Seems to do everything I need and very easy. Went into the setting one time and done. Now it backs up my "important files/docs" every Sat. @ 9:00pm.

I back up my data (200+ GB data alone) to two different external USB drives using Second Copy. So the data exists in three places at all times. Second Copy runs each night at 1 AM and compares the source and destination folders and copies only the new and changed data. It doesn't delete obsolete files unless I manually instruct it to, which I do once a month or so.

I like this better than most dedicated backup programs because the data isn't copied into a proprietary backup file, but is simply a mirror or my working files that can be copied back using explorer. No need to "restore" using the backup program.

    It's simple.

I couldn't agree with you more, Fountainhead, on your proprietary backup file comment. After all, why make things more complicated than necessary.

And, btw, for those who want to backup several of the same files and folders every time, a good program is Argentum Backup which, after you choose the files/folders once, will backup those everytime you run the program and puts them in standard .zip format.
