All the smart people hear seem to hate AOl. Why? I assume you all have good reasons, but hear is what I like, the ability to view a web page side by side as opposed to using tabs. I do a lot of comparisons that can only be found on different web pages and using tabs I can not view each together. I guess I could open a second web browser, but that seems inefficient.

My only problem, which is now a big one, is that since I downloaded a new version of AOL with security center my computer freezes when opening AOL and I need to end task "mcsysmon.exe" to get it to start quicker. I know this is a problem with Mcafee but I have not found a fix yet.

I've heard that AOL has violated customer privacy laws in the past. In any case, if you are looking for a web browser, I would recommend Firefox or Opera; although Internet Explorer 7 does the job well enough.

But to look at 2 different web pages side by side I would need to open 2 browsers?

Two windows, not 2 different browsers...plus if you right click a tab you can select an option of open in a new window or something to that extent.

I have yet to find an addon that lets you view 2 or more tabs side by side for Firefox. Not that something I need but it is certainly a feature I miss when I switch from Avant to Firefox. Can't comment on Opera since I'm not a big fan of it.

Obviously if the ability to view 2 webpages side by side is all you want then you might want to stick with AOL. Though I do recommend Avant browser, I would still be using it if not for the vast addons and customizations for Firefox.

Personally Firefox + Adblock + Noscript makes it the safest browser, period.

I remember looking at that addon before but I think it only shows you a thumbnail of tabs, and it switches to the tab you click on its thumbnail. Cheers for it anyway.

to be honest multi tabs browsing is only useful when I view full screen, something I don't do much nowadays. Habits change and now I prefer having Firefox as small as possible to one side of the monitor and still shows a full webpage without scrolling left and right.

finally finished installing vista sp1 (took long enough to install), time for a test drive! :p

Thumbnail? Why not just open the other link in a new firefox window (there are things like the Duplicate Tab extension) and then right-click on the taskbar and select "Tile Windows Vertically"? It will only tile currently visible (non-minimized) windows, so you don't even have to tile all the windows for all programs you have open. Best part is that it works with ANY browser that lets you open up multiple windows.

Another browser issue. With AOL mail as soon as I get mail I get notified. It seems in firefox with gmail I must refresh the screen to see that new e-mail has come in. Is there a setting so I will see the new e-mail immediately in g-mail?

My browsers... IE7, Opera, Safari. Safari is the only browser that works well with CNET TV. AOL interface looks good but too much information and flashing ads. Alas too bad AOL killed Netscape.

might want to give FF 3.beta 4 a try (find someone that uses this version and compare it side by side)
    - the video streaming quality (sound and sign) is much better, & no ads

& yes, i use both safari 3.0.4 and Minefield at the moment

    cheers ...

Opera will tile vertically, horizontally, and it will cascade. I don't use the feature with my 12" screen. :D
