I use HP's Mediasmart DVD program since its free; but I don't plan on watching too many anyway, and it worked well enough. For some reason I couldn't get the Blu-Ray sound through the Cable, but all of the other system sounds played fine through it.

Yes, I use HP Mediasmart as well. When I bought my laptop it has the Cyberlink program bundled and I used it (after some annoying difficulty with the compatibility). However, when I clean installed W7 I lost all that and didn't bother to reinstall it. I figured Windows Media Center can handle all that (and more) so I didn't need the extra bloatware. However, at the time I didn't want the hassle of configuring WMC so I just used HPmediasmart for the interim.

NOTE: I'm waiting to get a tv tuner before I set-up WMC. It really needs that to be a fully operational system.

p.s. it can support dual tuners you know!

Use PowerDVD8. If I get ATI cards in the future I'll consider upgrading to PowerDVD9, as that supports the bitstream feature the new 5 series cards offer.

Not yet, but you get a free copy of whatever software is necessary when you buy a Blu-Ray Drive.

Not always with an OEM drive you don't, as it's not always included, sometimes they are just bare drives.
