I've been trying to use MSI Afterburner in order to set the clock speed but it seems to be "locked" at a maximum of 740/1000, Meanwhile I've heard of people overclocking to 840 / 1100. Is this a program specific / vendor specific block (Sager 8170) or is it this revision of the graphics card drivers / CCC?

If anyone has some insight into this I would be thankful.

    Sapphire Trixx

Or for an OC you can flash the GPU vbios. below is a guide to flash a crossfire system, but all you need to worry about is the 0 as that is the primary GPU. 1 is a secondary or slave GPU.

You can find your stable OC with Trixx, and then flash the vbios 3D clocks to that stable OC, and your system will be permanantly OCed at the desired settings. Once you want to flash back just flash your stock vbios, or change the clocks.

Is there any distinct advantage to flashing the bios rather than using a software based overclock?

Yea, once it's OCed, you don't have to ouse software everytime you restart your system. And it offers a little bit more stability. But if you don't want it OCed all the time, than you can use software. Also when modifing the vbios, all you need to change are the 3Dclocks, this way the GPU will underclock when needed to the stock clocks like 100/150 or 400/600 ect. 3D Clocks are what affects gaming performance so thats all you need to change. This way powerplay will still be applicable.
