I'd include a poll but there are so many options that I'd no doubt end up missing atleast 1 option so I figured a good ol' traditional post was best.
In Vista I was an avid user of the K-lite pack (using Media Player Classic) for videos and Winamp for Audio but im not sure if that's the right way to go again in Windows 7? Especially as I don't think Winamp has native 7 support yet i.e. jumplists etc. I've also heard that a few of the codecs included in WMP12 are really rather good?
So what does everyone use?

The KM Player. Nuff' said.

WMP and VLC.

k-mega-pack (or ultra?) + mpc (still have vlc installed for remote view with iPhone and some dvd´s)
foobar2000 for audio
i completly removed the media center as it had tons of services + process + space which i dont need at all.
mpc is fast, plays everything (rly everything.. if smth is too hd for your laptop try mpc+coreavc+k-lite.. this should play EVERYTHING no matter which quality or codec) and foobar does the same with audio. What i like in foobar: u can customize it easy to everything u want.. u can play super nintendo sound files oO.. there rly is for everything a component which u can add to foobar
and besides that you can let it looks RLY great
@edit: from what i read the new wmp should be good too. but foobar has more features and a better look. and its rly fast. Same for mpc/vlc -

I think the version of WMP included with W7 has TONS of codec support. Most files play fine on it, for everything else I just use VLC. I do not think there is a point in installing codec packs which may inhibit system stability.

but u wont be able to play high quality files with wmp.
i will upload a clip for u so u can give it a try.
@edit: here is a test clip.. a rly rly old one.. there newer files which are much harder to play :x

I use Reclock + CCCP (which is Media Player Classic Homecinema, FFDShow, VSFilter and Haali's splitter).
-
Windows Media Player.
-
-
GOM Player for video and WMP for audio
-
WMP for videos and music when I don't feel like messing with foobar2000, otherwise I use foobar for music. WMP is for video with CCCP.
I'll use the Zune software for music when I'm syncing or making playlists. -
pmassey31545 Whats the mission sir?
VLC, WMP, MPCStar.

Forgot to add music player. I use AIMP2.

WMP is one of the best improvements in W7. It can play all of my movie files now. I don't even have to install codecs. I keep VLC Player to play .flv. If it weren't for that I'd have WMP only (and iTunes).
I like these lightweight solutions Microsoft included with the OS. I don't need 3rd-party software like Winzip, anti-virus, anti-spyware, or firewalls anymore. Makes my system lighter and cleaner.
I hope this trend continues. -
VLC

WMP for videos and Winamp for music.
-
vlc and windows media centre

I would use WMP if it supported ID3 2.4; so instead I use Foobar/AIMP2. MPC for Video.
-
WMP12 sharing + Xbox 360 = xvid & avi torrent win

i have
windows media player 12 for audio and video + winamp but i prefer wmp
its my main media player -
-
MPC HC and WMP with Windows7 Codecs + x64 Bit components
-
on vista it didnt work for me.. and on xp also.
but as i said: the clip is propably 2 years old.. maybe even older :x there video files which are much harder to play (but u wont rly need them to play anywayno movie is recorder with such a quality/codec). Does coreavc work with the new wmp? If yes , wmp maybe rly plays everything
but whats so special in win7 about wmp (except that it finally plays alot of video files) ? Why shouldnt i remove it and use mpc hc instatt ? Especially when i dont use it for music files. Is it faster/lighter than mpc hc? Or got some nice features (except the sharing) ?
When i removed the wmp + media center i removed not only some mb (okay not important) but i think i had 5 services less and 3 process less at the backround (might be wrong as its a long time ago since i removed it.. but i remember lot of media center services)
thanks -
foobar2000 FTW, and VLC for video.

In my own use I have K-lite codec pack with mpchc, altough I use Media Player for my movies and tv-series. For some reason my htpc's ATI crashes almost always when I use mpchc. Also new Media Players interface is nicer than MPC's. Matter of tasteFor short clips I still use MPC as it's lighter.
VLC I have installed for one website that has streaming tv.
Winamp with Aero Compact skin and Win7Shell for audio playing.
( http://code.google.com/p/win7shell/ and http://nyolc8.deviantart.com/art/Aero-Compact-1-5-for-Winamp-58001657 )
Mediamonkey I have for iPod sync.
Windows Media Center does the Live TV and recrodings when needed. -
i dont watch dvb-tv
got my televsion for that ?
-
Windows Media Player 12 for video and Winamp (I am moving away to Winamp slowly as it doesn't support Vista nor Window s7... NullSoft is still living in their cave with Windows 2000), Badically I use WInamp only for Internet Radio. I also use the Zune software.
-
WMP for sound, CyberLink PowerDVD 9.0 Ultra for video. (No native blu-ray support included!)
-
Has anyone/Does anyone use the Shark007 codecs? I've heard they don't interfere with WMP own codecs and are really quite good? Seeing as WMP has included 'out of the box' avi support i feel I should atleast try it, anything that makes my system that little bit lighter is a winner in my books
-
KMPlayer for video, QCDPlayer for audio. I've disabled the Windows stuff.
-
-
-
I use KMPlayer for videos and Winamp to listen to music. I also have Itunes but I try not to use it if I'm not syncing with my ipod.
-
I use Winamp for music and VLC for everything else

32-bit is in Program Files (x86) (all file association and shortcuts is linked to it by default)
64-bit is in Program Files.
Shark007 codec pack (must install the 32-bit one first and then the 64-bit one) has a utility panel, which allows you to select Windows Media Player 64-bit.Once selected it will chnage all Windows Media Player 32-bit file association to the 64-bit one, and shortcut files for you. So that next time you double click on a video, let say, it open Windows Media Player 64-bit.
The cool thing with SHark007 codec pack, is that it doesn't interfere with Windows built-in codec packs. Another cool thing, is that so far as I know Windows Vista/7 are the only place you can find 64-bit codec for MPEG-2 (DVD). -
VLC for videos and Songbird for songs.
-
Windows Media Player

Can WMP open most of the things the way VLC can?
-

-
Windows Media Player

WMP seems to do miles more things in 7 (without codecs) then it did in vista (requesting codec failed 24/7 lol).
-
am i the only one that plays music with iTunes?
-
second it's heavy it's like driving a tank -
Audio with Winamp, Video with DivX.

I've been using windows classic media player since i had become with annoyed with compatibility issues with wmp. Now that i've upgraded to windows 7, what advantages does wmp 12 give?
so avi- classic
264(HD)-classic
music(rarely listen so not particular)- itunes
What program(s) do we all use to play media within Windows 7?
