Windows Media Player 12 is actually 2 players in one.
You have the ultra slim and light which runs when you double click on a file for ultra fast loading, and the bigger one wch is the one we all know, where you have the playlist, music/video/picture library and so on.
Windows media Player 12 is available in 64-bit once "unlocked" with a supported codec pack (shark007 with it's 64-bit component installed, for example). Windows Media Player 12 allows you to use Windows 7 truly awesome built-in codecs including the only 64-bit DVD codec you can find at the moment.

I use WMP12 for everything except .mp4 with subtitles. For that I use MPC.
-
VLC player plays everyting i use
-
MPC/foobar2000
Function > Form, although that's not to say foobar2000 looks bad (MPC, the looks don't really matter as you're watching a video anyway) -
I think Foobar looks quite nice. I just have different taste I guess.
-
VLC for me and WMP ocasionally.
-
-KMPlayer for video
-Streamlined iTunes for audio (streamlining process: http://blogs.zdnet.com/Bott/?p=554)
Why iTunes? Great internet radio support (actually supports .pls stream unlike WMP), and a smexy interface. And no, I don't own an iPod. -

My video files are handled by Windows Media Player (classic); iTunes handles the audio--

-
MPC-HC + Haali + ffdshow for video.
Foobar for audio.
XMBC with MPC-HC as external player for home cinema. -
Wmp12 & Vlc

For video, Media Player Classic Homecinema + Windows 7 = plays 99.9% of the content available on the entire Internet - just can't handle the craptastic Real Media stuff but I could care less about that.
I don't use Windows Media Center, but if I did I'd install Haali's Splitter so it could play Mastroska .mkv files.
For video, that's it, nothing else is required, to play anything, ever. Windows 7's internal decoders negate the necessity of any third party codec installations or the nefarious "codec packs," regardless of who puts 'em out. No sense clogging up a nice solid OS with a bunch of useless codecs/filters - the OS can do all that for you now.
For audio, foobar2000 with the DarkOne v1.6.1 theme.
That's all she wrote. -

hm, yeah, i forgot that i have a dedicated media center pc
well, that one plays back everything trough mediacenter, duh..
shark filters for flv and such stuff. -
Zune for music and videos.
WMP+CCCP for the mkv's I haven't converted to wmv yet.
What program(s) do we all use to play media within Windows 7?
