I have 24 GB RAM
Windows 8 automatically allocated 6 GB as a page file
In the past, on Windows 7, I had 16 GB RAM and I always disabled the page file with 0 problems
what do you guys think of Windows 8 now?
I dont play games, just surfing and watching movies
Shall I disable the page file or set it to a fixed 1 GB Min / Max or leave it as it is?
Bear in mind that I am upgrading to 32 GB RAM next week to to have dual channel in all RAM slots because now 1 slot is empty making the second RAM slot run on a single channel

Set it to whatever you want.
You know you don't need 32GB just to watch movies and surf. -
Are you sure about slots and sticks of RAM inside your laptop?
Anyway set it to fixed 1GB for beginning and then lower in a week if nothing happens. -
You have 24GB of RAM, and then all you do is watch movies and surf the web? And now you want to upgrade to 32GB??
Seems to me you have more money than good sense. What in the world do you have this RAM for? For your usage, 4 gigs would be plenty. And, no, you certainly don't need a pagefile, but on the other hand, why bother? You don't do anything with that PC anyway (well, other than stuff it full of RAM, I guess), so it doesn't matter one way or another. -
Haha, well more is better, max it out if you can
.
I set it to 4GB (I have 8GB RAM) on the SSD (the speed is worth it, plus it rarely uses the pagefile anyway). Have never encountered the old "out of virtual memory" notification even in games. Besides, I think Windows automatically increases it anyway if it needs to... -
the only reason I wanna upgrade to 32 GB to have Dual channel all across
at the moment, using the Intel Flex Mode, only first 2 sticks run in Dual Channel mode and the 3rd 8 GB stick left alone is on single channel, by upgrading to another 4th 8 GB stick, all RAM SODIMMs run in dual channel
RAM is very cheap nowadays, so that's why I like to max it out -
As you've seen, Windows set it to 6 GB instead of 24 GB like previous versions would do. Personally, I wouldn't bother with it. I set it manually on my Windows 7 partition because it insisted on defaulting it to 32 GB, so I put the min to 256 MB and the max to something like 32 GB (in case I really go over the amount of RAM I have). With Windows 8, I simply didn't bother changing the settings since it was small enough not to hog a good portion of the SSD.

I see, thanks Tijo

You NEVER EXCEED 8GB of your 32. Go to task manager and watch yourself! So why would you bother at all?
To make it even clearlier dual channel gives about 0 to 10 percents in raw performance where maximum will get archievators. Only system responsiveness will be better but you still have 24GB while using up to 6 with your kind of usage.
Facepalm again.
What shall I set my Pagefile to in Windows 8?
