Just got my new laptop and was curious if there is anything I should do right away.

Should I update right away? Should I turn the laptop on without the battery charger for the first few minutes? Should I remove all the bloatware? Etc.

Just want everything to go smoothly.

I would run the battery down first, then while it's recharging, go ahead and remove all the bloatware. What are the specs?

So let the battery run low then hook up the battery charger? Removed all bloatware then update via Windows Update?

Specs are Intel Core 2 Duo P7350 (2.0GHz), 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 (512MB).

After that, update, install everything you need, then defrag/cleanup.

Ok so Removed Bloatware > Update > Install Programs > Clean-up registry, etc.

Agreed about letting the battery drain, let it go until the laptop actually shuts off and then recharge it completely. I also might be inclined to update any drivers (video drivers, audio drivers, chipset drivers being prime targets). Make sure you have a decent antivirus and spyware program (My suggestions being AVG or avast, and spybot S&D).

Ok about the battey. I read that the battey comes pretty discharged and you should let it charge up before letting it discharge again.

No just discharge it the way it comes and you should be good to go.
