I just purchased a new laptop and would like to know what is the most popular Vista optimization software people use. I used system mechanic on my desktop and i donnot want to use it anymore - there should be smth better out there. I found the program called Tweak VI is pretty popular. What are you using?
Thanks for help.

I do things by hand mostly for editing the registry and turning services on and off. However, I think people on this board in general will recommend WinBubble, CCleaner, and if you are up to it, visit www.blackviper.com for advance tweaks. If you are comfortable messing around with registry settings, I highly recommend using HijackThis because it allows you to see some things that otherr programs don't show you. It is also useful for helping to get rid of spyware.

I do manual tweaking.

I use the patented software known as "Nothingness". Its advanced technology of not doing additional harm to your OS is unmatched in the industry. It's also on 24/7.

mix of Advance Care (60% of its funtions), cCleaner (100% because it is conservative enough in its cleaning) and MANUAL tweaks

I don't use tweaking software unless the author provides explicit documentation as to what each tweak does. That said, I don't use tweaking software because apparently nobody likes to do this. Which, of course, is fine because I learn how to do them on my own and can decide for myself if it's useful/safe/etc or not. -
manual tweaks...ccleaner everytime before i shut down...registry mechanic to help keep the registry clean of invalid keys...diskeeper for frag prog...your uninstaller to uninstall progs...pulls the registry keys with the uninstall...tweak u.i...and spybot s&d

I use a mixture of manual tweaking and program tweaking. I apply tweaks such as disable indexing, disable automatic search for printers, enable enhanced performance for hard drives, using classic start menu, disabling hide inactive icons on the taskbar etc... after this I use a program called mz vista force, which provides an array of tweaks, in an easy gui. Tweaking definately payed off, and I now get boot times of about 42 seconds ( which is great considering my hardware ) and always smooth transitions in flip 3d ( which is great since I have integrated graphics).

But usually I just leave it alone. There's nothing to be gained by running various "optimization" software, and you always risk one of them causing harm to your system. -
Thank you i will check all the listed programs. I definitely will get CCleaner and Diskeeper. I just wanted one software that does it all, uncomfortable with getting five different programs for each individual task, you know what i mean...
Thanks again. -
WinBubble, CCleaner, Auslogics Boostspeed, Manual Tweaking

If you find yourself using anything that messes with the registry, I feel sorry for you... lol...
Most stuff does more harm than good over time and then people blame windows. lol
What system optimization software do you guys use?
