I happen to have version 8 of Adobe Reader Lite, I wasn't fast enough to download version 9 before it disappeared into the mists of the Web.
Will version 8 work in Vista (Home Premium)?
I remember there was a version that did not work yet with Vista but I don't remember which one... I know version 8 works in XP for sure.

Well, IMO you should switch over to FoxIt Reader, as it's about a millions times faster, but if you still want to stay with Adobe Reader, I don't see why it wouldn't work with Vista. Even if you have to run it in compatibility mode.

I used Foxit reader on my Vista Business but I did not like it much. I did not like the interface, but that's a matter of one's tastes, also it was not faster then my ages old Adobe Reader (I guess it was 5 or 6), nor it was faster that Adobe Reader Lite 8 on XP (which is blazingly fast!) and I could not change the darn icon associated with PDF files. It also had a peculiar OCR glitch that messed up word with "f" and "fi" in them.

(EDIT: I am talkng about an older version, here. Hopefully the new version has overcome this problem, But I'd still like to have the light version of Adobe Reader, the lowest version known to be working in Vista).

The Adobe Reader Lite I am referring to is a stripped down version of the much bloated Adobe Reader. I learned about its existence from the Ever Growing List of Software in this forum. It's light, it's fast, it's neat.

    Plus, it's gone :).

I can even say that 2 years Foxit has come a long way, I too, did not like it much, but now it seems fine.

Anyway, having a look on FileHippo at different versons of Adobe Read, not lite, I got to about version 6, and it supports Vista.

As for version 6 of the full Adobe Reader, when I tried to install it it said it had "compatibility issues with Vista".
I then turned to version 8 of A. Reader, it installed fine under Vista and seems to work ok.

Oh ok. I was just going with what was said on the FileHippo site. My mistake.
