What will the differences be between Windows Vista 32 bit and Vista 64 bit?
I'm very close to buying a laptop that has a Pentium M (centrino)processor but I'm not sure yet until I know and understand the main differences between 32 and 64 bit. I read somewhere that Vista 64 bit will run faster then the 32 bit version. Now I never use photoshop, or any other demanding program like photoshop. I will mainly use it to surf the internet, watch dvds, play some games from time to time and for school.

The reason why I am asking this is because $1500 is a lot of money for me. I am soon starting college and I plan on using the laptop(dv4000) that I am about to buy for at least 3 years. Windows Vista is coming out in about 1 year so I don't want to buy a laptop that won't support Vista 64 if there infact is a huge difference between 64 and 32 bit.

what do you all think?

Note: I have already made up my mind about switching over to Vista in one year from now. Like I said, I'm just wondering what the differences will be between Vista 32 and Vista 64.

    Thanks in advance. :)

32 ? ....For the items you mentioned it will make no difference - maybe the odd game might be optimized for 64 bit and if you feel the need to have more than 4gb of RAM. 64 bit architexture is a major undertaking and all the developers will eventually port their apps over to be opitmized for 64 as well as dual core support - but this will not happen quickly.

Your Laptop will be long obsolote before you will a) notice a difference and b) take advatage of the difference (based on your needs today)

I would suggest take that decesion out of the equation and run with 32 bit Vista when (hahaha) it is available (see obsolete Laptop comment haha)

    Thanks for your post Daacon.

    anyone else?

When will the 64 bit version be released? I read that the 32 bit version will be released first. Hmm, around christmas 2006 if I am not mistaken. Do they mean that Vista 32 will be released then or Vista 64?

From what I understand, Vista is currently scheduled to released late next year, and the first release will likely be just the 32-bit version. Maybe in 2007 the 64-bit version will launch.

you will be halfway through college before you see normal apps taking advantage of 64 bit architecture.
