I use FF but I do have gripes about it that frustrate me.
1. Last night I was watching vids on youtube but they were not buffering fast enough. Eventaully FF popped up saying it downloaded a new update. Right after this, youtube started loading faster.
2. When I close FF and immedietly reopen it, has that message saying FF is still running. <---shouldn't have to deal with this
3. I've had to reinstall FF in the past because it stopped connecting to the internet.
I like FF, but when it does this stuff... it makes me angry.
-
Mmm, Yeah, some time's it drives me nuts. Number 2 happens all the time, and it really bothers me!
-
The second one listed happens to me when I accidentally close firefox then reopen. However, it's not a problem when I have multiple tabs open because then it will ask if I'm sure I want to close it. Otherwise I rarely see it because I usually don't close it.
Youtube will sometimes buffer slow, but I blame Youtube for that. It coinciding with an update is inconvenient, but worth it IMO to have the convenience of the auto-update.
I've never experienced the third problem listed... Sounds aggravating. Did you check to ensure you weren't in "Work Offline" mode?
Once suggestion to Mozilla: When you're zoomed in/out on a site, a big notification should be present letting people know how to return to normal view. It's really strange the first time you accidentally zoom out and don't realize the feature exists. (Ctrl+0, btw)

Flash videos skip a lot. I can't uninstall certain addons. It uses up a lot of memory over time, and it isn't nearly as fast as chrome.
I only use it for FireFTP nowadays. -
I get none of those :/ or at least I haven't noticed them.
-
More open tabs -> more resources allocated -> more time it takes to shutdown.
With opera it does happen too, but not that long to shutdown.Last edited by a moderator: May 12, 2015 -

I love FF. I try other browsers from time to time but always go back to FF.
My boss who is a tech savvy person was hardcore Chrome until I showed him a few addons I use on firefox now and now he is back to FF again too! (read it later is the addon, super great for the kind of work we do)
I am more than sure you can turn off auto updates if that is a problem for you, so that can fix your first problem.
Problem #2 I do not think I have ever had happen to me. Maybe because I have a fast computer/laptop?
Never had problem #3 either. So cant say thats a known issue but rather a rare occurrence on your behalf.
I used to use the minefield beta builds too, super fast browser. Incredibly noticeable when working on google docs on our website/wiki. -
1. There is no option to automatically view 2 websites side by side.
2. Sometimes it is hard to search for a keyword in a crowded website. A blinking highlighted keyword would be very helpful
3. No obvious location where FF stores temporary internet files. Anybody knows where?
4. Requires separate installation for Flash
5. No option to automatically view website centered in the screen. Website like bloomberg.com needs it. -
used to love FF...but started using Chrome..and got used to it..as its much faster, doesnt give such issues.

FF has become slow. Painfully slow compared to Chrome or Dragon (which i use). Nothing like version 2 that swiped IE.
-
I switched to Chromium myself.
FF I still find slightly preferable due to it's AdBlock, but I don't use it on my system really any more because it's very slow.
There are input lags, and youtube videos have a tendency to freeze for a second or two before resuming (audio works fine, the video stops briefly before resuming - same goes for operations in FF ... cannot switch between tabs during this freeze, and textual input lags).
I only have adblock, download statusbar, mail notifier and video helper as add-ons.
Nothing else.
I guess I will have to wait until new version comes out and try it out. -

I don't like FF's memory hoarding and general slowness. It takes up a ridiculous amount of resources when you've got several tabs open. I've also had a lot of issues with the browser being slow even without add-ons such as adblock plus and flash block. Some of FF's weird hot keys also get in my way. The worst is when the / key activates search while I'm typing in a text box.
I made the switch to Chrome and haven't looked back. FF manages to irritate me more and more with each update. -
Chrome has extensions + Adblock now. So I see no reason for FF.
-
I just hate how slowly it starts up when it's closed. Chrome is almost instantaneous, but FF takes a good 2-3 seconds.
-
It doesn't block all ads effectively as FF's Adblock.
It hides them for the most part and leaves empty space where the ad is supposed to be (and FF apparently closes the empty space by filling it with the remainder of the webpage content).
Having said that, I still prefer using Chromium as it's a tad safer, and it does block most ads. -

I used to use FF and quite enjoyed it, though my computer wiould start to run really slow after a while surfing the net. This became a pain so started using IE8 again and had no problems since.
I'm not saying it's not a good browser, it just wouldn't work for me the twice I downloaded it. -
I wish I could think of something but I can't. I've never experienced any of the problems in the OP's post. There is probably still some memory leakage, but I have plenty so that doesn't bother me.

Firefox is not the perfect browser as many people would like to believe. As many have suggested it is slow and tends to consume a lot of computer real estate. Still, in a recent comparison it out classed Chrome in almost every test. At best Chrome, satisfies a niche segments.
As little credit as Internet Explorer tends to get these days, it still browser king with over 60% of computer users. If anyone's interested, I use Firefox about 95% of the time. -

FF with its add-ons seems very heavy to me. I also don't like the interface (this is a personal thing, no doubt). I am also tired of dealing with the constant updates of the add-ons. So, when I got my new machine, I did not install it. I now have IE8, Chrome and Opera. Whereas earlier, I used to primarily use Opera, I don't like their 10.x version. I use IE8 most often and Chrome for a few sites. I don't think I will go back to FF anymore.

I really had no gripes with FF till Chrome came out. Then after seeing the new GUI FF just seemed like it hogged too much precious screen real estate. And with 1366x768 becoming the new standard it seem even more important. (Of course there is always fullscreen in FF, but not the same.) Chrome also seems snappier. Now that it has adblock I don't hardly miss FF anymore.

Slow startup time...
1,3-2s on a SSD is too slow... especially as its an Intel one...
else... the address bar is pretty high - it could be at least 5 maybe evne 10 pixels narrower to give me more screen real estate (and yes I'm on 16:10)
And I suppose the fact that you need to collect add-ons to make it a good browser.
On that note - this is how it looks for me:
