The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. What'd they break in the 10/12 update?

After the tuesday updates (11 of them was it?), Win7 is doing annoying things when it comes to multiple windows and minimizing. For example, if I open a firefox window, and then open winamp WITHOUT minimizing ff, the firefox window (which is still quite visible in the background behind winamp) will be blinking orange on the taskbar. If I try and click the orange'd taskbar button, it doesn't do anything; it won't bring the ff window to the front, nor will it minimize the ff window. The only way to stop this behavior is to click the show desktop button every time. This is extremely annoying.

So my question is this: what random setting was changed (without me knowing, ty updates), and where can I find it? Folder options is a no-go, and most of the obvious places aren't being helpful either.

Personally, the first time I shut down the computer after installing the updates (which occurred during a shutdown itself), my computer didn't manage to shut down, but froze on the shutdown screen. This was especially bad because I assumed it had shut down since I had closed the lid, so I put it in a notebook sleeve, then in a messenger bag, and rode my bike half an hour across town to a coffee shop. When I got there, it had burned an hour worth of battery and it was blazing hot, like 80 degrees celsius hot... I was reluctant to blame it on the updates, but if you guys are, I guess I can too...

I haven't had any issues like that. I just tried what the OP described too, and nothing. Maybe try a system restore and try installing the updates again? I dunno.

Did anyone have trouble installing kb 2160841 (one of the patches from Tuesday)? Tried a clean boot with no avail as well.

So, I installed .NET Framework 4 hoping that the Windows update will install (since the update is for .NET framework 4) but it's still getting the failed error code 66A.

ok, so I figured it out, did some googling.

-uninstalled all previous .NET w/ dotnetfx cleanup tool
-reboot, ran WU again. Let windows 7 install .NET auto.
-ran WU again and this time the update worked.

    :)
