Mine is around 30ish% idling. And I'm running Vista H. Prem.

If I'm running Firefox, Aero, MSN, Yahoo Widgets and Antivirus, it goes into the mid-40's.

Vote and tell how much you have running! :)

Running Firefox, iTunes, Antivirus and Freecell, I'm around 20%. I'm kicking it with XP Pro with SP2 which I slipstreamed myself and it's lacking quite a lot of bloatware. Love it. I also only have 512MB of DDR RAM. Old school!

I'm usually around 45%, though right now I'm at 60%. I have Far Cry paused in the background, Photoshop and Dreamweaver open, Firefox open with 5 tabs, and SmartFTP open.

    Edit: I'm running XP Pro

You should specify which Windows OS you're talking about; Vista and XP have totally different memory management.

Do you mean percent free or percent used (I'm guessing used)? Right now I'm somewhere between 40 and 50 percent free, but I'll vote after I know which one you mean.

I'm running 2 word documents, firefox x1, winamp (playing tunes), and have one file directory window open and I'm using ~29%, all under winp xp home. I've removed bloatware, and run a few anti-spyware/virus protection, and all the proprietary toshiba software so I may have my special keyboard and touchpad features.

Based on my task manager, the physical memory used is 46% or 957MB of 2GB running Vista Business. It has avast!, Live Messenger 8.5, and a small utility that controls the wireless. Can't get it to go lower though.

Well, of course, people with more RAM will generally have lower usage percentages.

Plus, what's the point of unused RAM? Wouldn't you rather use your RAM than not use it? I'd rather be using 75% of my 1.5GB than 50% of 2GB...

Idling, I use between 30 and 40% of 1 gig on XP Home, provided I have left everything that opens at boot-up stay on. The highest I've ever got is between 90 and 95%, though I got over 98% at times when I had 512 MB.

Right now I'm running Linux and am under 10% :)

These are on my R3000 with 1.2GB RAM.
    Xp ~ 20%
    Ubuntu ~15%

Vista on my V3000 with 2GB RAM is using ~35% when idle.

Man... I've only got 8MB of 256 free on my web server, and 128MB free out of 1024 on my dual Xeon desktop... oh, wait. That's because it doesn't matter, caching of data actually speeds everything up, even if you have more physical memory used. Even under Windows. Windows will release memory when it's requested by another application, just like every other modern OS. Free physical RAM is a pointless metric.

On my laptop, with XP, around 25%(thats after removing bloatware and disabling some services)
It has 1.5 gigs of ram.

On my desktop, with Vista, around 30%(again, taking out most of the bloatware and taking a *few* services out)
It has 2 gigs of ram.

I REALLY am disappointed with Vista so far. I knew it was a pig, as far as efficientsy is concerned, but i didnt think it would be this slow, and painful to use... and thats coming off an old Pm laptop with XP, going to a quad core desktop. To give you an idea of how bad it is, i'm using my laptop right now to post, even though i'm at the same desk with the quad core Vista machine with the big 20" monitor...

Currently at 46% with only 1 window of IE opened.. I'm running Vista Home Premium..

    There are 62 processes running.. (Total Phy memory = 2037MB, Cached = 1331MB and Free = 23MB)

I have an HP dv6633 dual core, with 2 GB RAM and 120GB hard drive.. It's just 2 weeks old laptop..

I was wondering if that was an alerting usage of RAM? Pls advise and if yes, any recommendations to take care of it.

    Thanks folks!

Low 20's when fresh from a boot, 30's when surfing [I use FF], checking mail, mp3's, and word processing [all programs for these open at once]. And I think my widgets program was open then, too.

Voted for 30's because that's my normal usage.

Not that used RAM means bad, but would you really want a system running low on RAM when you're just doing 'normal' stuff? I don't want to use 75% of my 2GB when I'm just doing my homework and listening to tunes...

With 3Gb of ram on Vista Ultimate x64, my idle is 34% usually with xfire, rmclock, aero, avast 4! home and sidebar open.
Goes upto 35-40% with Opera open with 2 tabs, WMP x64 and a window open. Me likes =p, a game like gunz or drift city brings it up to 50-70% depending on what else is open on background.
