It's probably set to the wrong keyboard layout.
Go to Control Panel -> Region and Language to fix it up.

What country are you in? If you're in the US, set it to US.

Alternatively, go to the keyboard tab, and add a US layout keyboard. eg Click add, English(Canada) and select US underneath it.

Your keyboard probably has the standard US layout.

Try close and re-open FireFox. Also, it is possible to have multiple keyboard layouts installed and switching automatically between programs. Make sure the US layout is selected in FireFox, or delete the French?* layout if you never use it.

    *might not be French.
