It popped up on my Windows Update about a month ago. Running x64 Ultimate.
-
It was already released, but not for systems that have some...problematic...drivers. I'm guessing you have one.
-
i know it was released back on March 18th, but I want to know when it will be in the automatic updates
-
It should be available as an optional download now, with it being automatic sometime in early June or July.
-
oh ok. I have my updates set to notify, and not automatic. i hadn't seen it yet.
why would they take so long to include it automatically in the windows update if it has been out for more than a month? i wanted to wait until it showed up in my updates, but not that long. -
I think they want to take in SP1's initial reaction to the public's hardware before forcing it thru via an Automatic Update.

I downloaded it after I made a clean instal of Vista via Windows Update.
-
Why not just download it now if you want it so bad...? It's been available for a while now.
-
it could cause issues if you have a problematic driver. also it might not even install at all

That is probably the most effective way of getting it. Not to mention the best way to prevent any driver conflicts or issues.
I'd suggested this many times and it's helped a few who heard my voice.

Is there a way to do a reinstall of Vista without having to then reinstall everything else? I remember XP had a "Repair" option which I used to great effect several times over the years, but I can't find it with Vista. I really don't want to have to start from scratch.
My laptop has some irritating USB issues that Microsoft says will be resolved with SP1, but SP1 is not available for me via Windows Update (presumably one of the problematic ones). Does anyone know when it will become available for the machines with problematic hardware? -
sorry to intrude on your topic but i want a question answered. i read in another topic that if you have conexant hd audio (which i do) that a file called CHDART.sys is left behind after an update. i have 6 of those files on my laptop. they range from 4.8.0.0 to 4.15.1.0. i am wondering if i should delete these files as sp1 hasn't shown up a WU for me.
thanks ahead of time!

Uh, just reinstall the sound drivers which are the "problematic" drivers.
That did the trick for me. -
nevermind, i just did a check and am downloading sp1 now.
i will still say thanks to waveblade for replying!
edit: sp1 installed with more freespace! went from 36gb free to 48gb free! no probs encountered.
When will Vista SP1 be released via Windows Update?
