I´m not in any hurry to get sp2 or download the stand-alone installer but when can we expect sp2 on the windows update service?

Vista SP2 has been available through Windows update for several months now.

It's been available for quite some time now. To get it to show up I had to get all the other updates available through WU before SP2 would come up.

Some people have said that sometimes it won't show up because of it's size, but I don't personally believe that to be true.

    Agreed.
If it doesn't show up, you can just click on "search for update" in WU for a few times. I guess it would show up. If it still didn't show up, restart the laptop and "search for update" in WU again.

So, would a refusal to install IE8 or Silverlight explain why I don't have SP2 listed as available?

SP2 can be installed on systems running IE7 and doesn't require Silverlight.

No, as they aren't required to be installed. SP2 only showed up after I installed .NET 3.5 SP1, and some other updates I think.

Hmm...tried to search for the update through windows update, no result. I have recommended updates checked etc. Guess I´ll just download the installer, it´s the swedish one and a whooping 475 MB in size :) Thanks for the feedback y'all, especially kegobeer.

Hmmm, Windows Updater shows the following available updates -

    Microsoft Silverlight (KB970363)
Internet Explorer 8 for Windows Vista for x64-based Systems
    Office Live add-in 1.4
    Windows Live Essentials

    There are no hidden updates.

Ah, more hunting on the MS site produces this gem -

I do have an internal BT device in my laptop.

Hmm, perhaps I'll just wait for Win7. Might be less hassle than SP2.

I did a fresh format yesterday and went through the same thing you did. You just have to keep downloading Microsoft updates until it shows up. By the time SP2 showed up, it was only a 60 meg download. :)

I've got Vista SP2 on my SZ and I have an interal Bluetooth device - on a 32Bit system though - and I have no problems with my bluetooth mouse at all.

    You mean internally?

Possibly because I can switch it on and off and USB is one of the best connections for plug and play I believe.
I think my CD drive is connected via USB too. (imternally)

Yes. Does it show in "Computer"? Mine doesn't, because it has a built in Bluetooth Manager Program.

On new comps, and depending on brand/models, that come with Vista, sometimes it can take up to a month or more before one can see the SP2 showing up in WU. In the mean time just install what ever update comes along.

    cheers ...

For my new XPS 16 I had updated to every possible update, and still nothing. So I updated to there was nothing to update, than I installed SP2 from the installer. Went flawlessly.
