Alright, well im sure some of you know about my recent problems with both my computers being attacked by God knows what. ANYWAYS! Just a little update with that, I re-installed Windows Vista on my desktop (it crashed completely) and did a full restore on my laptop. Now with this Full restore, i was forced to use the internet (Internet Explorer) to first get Mozilla Firefox, and then re-download my virus protection (Im now using Advanced System Optimizer) So after I installed my virus protection, it asked me to restart my computer.
Once it booted back up, I have NO DESKTOP WHAT SO EVER! Just a black screen. The only thing I have is a Windows Explorer window that opens with the boot up, so I am forced to navigate through my files/programs using that. I have No tool bar, no nothing. And here is a little screen shot of the boot up:

What can I do about this? The windows re-install disk ONLY WORKS TWICE! and I used it both times, and will not allow another re-install.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME
-
Did you install drivers?
A Windows disc works an infinite amount of times. -
Yes, Installed all drivers, and the disk dell sent me had 'Limited Keys' and when I tried to use it again, it said 'CD has been activated maximum number of times, please insert different CD and try again.'

Well, get a new harddrive. And another CD. How's that?
BTW, that .limewire and Bittorrent download folder couldn't have anything to do with the virus' now could they?
-
Haha, they are all empty, but I wish that would do the trick.
But the viruses came after I allowed my mom use my TB external HD for her Work Files after all their servers crashed (Evidently along with any virus protection they had) and so when i plugged it back into my computer to delete all the work files, I got attacked by viruses (21,843 Viruses) -
You sure? I've never heard of that.
EDIT: Sorry, I didn't see your "limited keys" explanation. -
I'm with Lithus - thought a Windows disk could be used as many times as an owner pleased. Is this a special disk, or a new MS program of some sort?
If you can't make this work somehow, or lack cash for another disk, there's always Linux. Might not be quite right for all your needs, but it's free and can get your machine up and running again in an hour or so. -
My dog tore my original Vista disk to shreads, so i had to order off for another one from dell. And i guess when they sent me a new disk, they made SURE it was limited.

I found my XP Media center Os disk, im going to try and use that. Ill post the results *Fingers Crossed*
-
It's the key that's limited, right? I don't see how they could limit a disc....
I'd think you could use any disc with the key that came with your computer... should be on a sticker on the bottom... no? -
I'm pretty sure the screen with the black background is one of Microsoft's measures to combat piracy. If the key is invalid or pirated, it automatically goes into a limited mode. More information here:

Just a little update. It took me 4 hours to do a Full restore and find all the correct drivers (not up to date on drivers yet, just got the minimum ones) But those wireless card drivers were hard to find...
Anyways, computer is back to normal, im running Windows Media Center. -
The dog chewed his install CD up.
That's classic!
-
Usually dogs chew up homework, no? LOL
-
IDK. I've never done an official experiment, but it tends to be the stuff on the ground close to it's mouth.
-
Normally. it had tons of scratches on it, and the label had been taken off.
-
They sent one for the custom made desktop too?
-
not intentionally. I just read the instructions and it said 'Note: This Disk can only be used twice" So i figured.... why not?
-
There has to be more to the story than you're telling. Your sig says Media center. -
Yeah, once i reformated to Vista on my laptop again, I used the other Key on my desktop. A day later, my laptop can not load the desktop (see page 1 post #1) So i tried using the CD again for Vista, and it did not work. I luckely found my XP Media Center back-up disk, and just put that on my computer for the time being until i figure out what im going to do about vista.
-
If you had an XPS Dell will send you all the install disk one time if you lost the originals.

HELLO!!!!???!!!! There is the issue, you cannot install it on two machines. Your license is only for a single machine.
