Where can I buy Windows XP Home Edition cheap? I tried looking at Amazon and up came something like " Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition SP2B for System Builders [Old Version]" for $90. Can I use this? What does it mean old version? I want to install it on my mom's PC which runs Windows 2000.

There was also an upgrade version? She does not have the original Windows 2000 disc so will the upgrade version not work?

Student discount if you're in school ... otherwise an OEM copy may be your best bet (for example, at newegg).

Is the link that I provided at the top an OEM copy of XP Home Edition? Is there a limitation to using an OEM copy?

It's nothing of the sort. Where did you get that idea? On my home network I run Win2k on 4 machines, and my notebook runs WinXP. They're quite different.

None whatsoever. I've been using a OEM copy of XP pro since 2001 and i've had no problems activating it. If I change the hardware too much and it requires reactivation I just call MS and they activate it over the phone. I've done this countless of times.

Vista OEM is a totally different animal.
