Friend of mine told me some time ago that I can download Vista (business x64) from microsoft webpage for free, since I already have my serial.

Is it true? If not, where can I get a clean install of Vista business x64?

I'm trying to dualboot on my laptop with XP & vista, but when I put in the Vista DVD, it always formats my HDD and then makes a stupid recovery partition for HP crap. Argh.

You can still buy the copy very cheap from the marketplace...or use a copy from a friend.
They key is what you pay for , 99% of it anyway...

Quick question, If I had the Vista Ultimate DVD's, would I be able to install Vista business? I was told that you can pick which version of Vista you want from Vista Ultimate DVD

That is correct. Ultimate contains all versions, and by entering your key it will install your version. As for torrent sites it creates the issue of copyright infringement in downloading software. Most people who download torrents also use cracks to activate the software which further raises the issue of piracy. Copyright infringment, and piracy are illegal. Thus, torrent links, etc., are grounds for banishment on most sites such as this.

You are correct - a Vista disk is a Vista disk, while a Vista key is a certain version of the OS. Got disk - will travel.

Not always.. that is true only for the retail disks.. The ones that come from OEMs, are usually stripped to just one version..

My Vista Ultimate x64 retail OEM disc has all the versions on it...

Edit: Ooops, in re-reading the post, I think the poster meant OEM discs from PC manufacturers, not the OEM disc one would buy from a store.

Did you receive that disk from the company that sold you the computer, or was that an OEM version you purchased separately? My sense of it is, the larger manufacturers - the ones who license _Vista from Microsoft on the per-sale royalty basis - provide limited disks (if they provide disks at all), whereas smaller manufacturers and resellers provide a disk from the OEM System Builder set they licensed from Microsoft, and that those disks do contain the full set of _Vista variants.
