I installed Windows 8 last year and downloaded Protector Suite 2012 from Authentec's website. The software worked perfectly. I upgraded to Windows 8.1 and experienced compatibility problems with Sony software and had to downgrade to W8 again and i never did a backup. I never saved the Protector Suite 2012 software and i can no longer download it from Authentec's website as it no longer exists.

I was wondering may be if anyone knows if a manufacturer provides the full version that i could download?

    Thanks

a simple answer is i have no idea.
they have removed all of their support from all the official links on the net and drivers and backup is now obsolete.

i had a problem where the finger swipe from boot up dissapeared of my screen and no matter what i tried i couldnt get it to work. the software still said it was working correctly.
in the end the only way i could get the onscreen swipe logo back was to do 3 system restores. on the 3rd attempt the logo came back and i could log in with my finger again.

hopefully someone might be able to upload the software to an external host so you can download it.

On a clean win7 install, if you typed "finger" or "biometric" or something similar, it would first launch Authentec's website to download software. Now if I would do the same, it would launch something else. Except I cannot do it because my work laptop has Lenovo's own software and this desktop has nothing... so I'm not gonna tell what it is.

Would it work similarly on Win8? Try to launch fingerprint feature from start screen

    Thanks for your help.
KLF, that didn't bring up anything for me. Authentec has been bought by Apple and everything has been removed from the internet.

This might be a long shot but if you cant get the software anywhere else and you still have the recovery partition intact on your vaio you can use a couple of methods to extract the program. Assuming that software came with your vaio...

    This thread has 2 methods:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/son...vd-etc-sonys-hidden-recovery-partition-3.html

Post #23 has a 2nd method using linux, with more info here: https://github.com/victorklos/recovaio
Post #30 has my response on how I got it to work.

you probably would have to read the entire thread to understand what your supposed to do.

S.Prime, thank you for your help.
My laptop never came with the 2012 protector suite software.
I did though manage to download the protector suite 2012 software today through the wayback archive website. I tried several times today and the link kept on going to a no access page. I got lucky though and it worked when i tried again. I downloaded the 32bit and 64bit versions for my laptops.
This is the link where i downloaded it from.
AuthenTec Customer Support > Downloads > Windows > ProtectorSuite

I also managed to download the Firefox and Chrome extensions on another website.
    http://webcache.googleusercontent.c...=1+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=uk&client=firefox-a

    Edited to add:
I think version PS_WBF5.9.7.7256 is the limited version and version ps_wbf2012build7279 is the full free version. I used to have version 79. I guess version 56 is better than nothing.
    ....
I installed the W7 finger print sensor and protector suite software that Sony provides for my laptop and then did an upgrade to Protector Suite 2012 version 7256 and it now appears to function as a full version. There should be no differences now between both versions. I did though somehow manage to download the full version for 32bit.

This reply seems related to your question....

Full version of Protector Suite 2012 now free - RedFlagDeals.com Forums

But I also read the software exposes your windows password so I don't see how much protection this software can do if it exposes your password??

    Hi all,

I stumbled upon the same issue: where can I download the last version of Protector Suite. On touslesdrivers you can find the Authentec/Upek software & drivers. I have the original 2011 version of the program and to be certain I did a hash comparison between my purchased version and the download on touslesdrivers for Vista 64-bit, and they were the same. Therefore I think the downloads on this site van be trusted. The site is in French, but even without any knowledge of French you can still find the right driver/software. If not, you can always use a translation machine.

    Hope this helps.

    Pimjoosten,

I registered on this website, specifically to THANK YOU for the link to that Touslesdrivers website. I had just installed Windows 8.1 (From Windows 7). On Windows 7 my Protector Suite 2012 software was working fine. When trying to install it on the Windows 8.1, I kept getting this 'Windows Biometric Framework not enabled' error, and thus could not use the software. After checking the link to the Touslesdrivers, I discovered that I had been using version: ps_wbf5.9.7.7279-64bit

Whereas there is a slightly newer version: ps_common5.9.8.7279-64bit

That slightly newer version made the entire difference. I did not have that file, and only found it because of you! So I sincerely thank you sir. That was driving me absolutely nuts!!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! :hi2:
