I'd like to try out some vintage OSs. Where can I get 95 from?
-
I've got win98 xD
-
The OS is so outdated you will never have a fully functional system, outside of using a VM.
No drivers, you'll get a virus of death in 5 minutes...sigh. -
Try bargain bins at flea markets or possibly pawn shops or something. Or dig through closets... I know I've found some ancient OS copies I didn't remember that I had
I also agree with Greg... run it in a virtual machine (vmware or virtualbox are both good) to get the best results. It almost certainly won't work very well on recent hardware. -
Ahh...Windows 95, I believe that was the first OS I had saw and messed around w/ as a child in primary/elementary school.
I guess it's nice to go back for the heck of it; but I rather not...can't imagine using that again...knowing what's out now. That being XP and yes, .Vista!
And good luck finding it and getting it to run smoothly on these modern computers. -
Yeah, I recall using 95 until 2005 for homework. Managed to get Office 97 on it and worked well. I just miss so much of it, from The DOS boot up screen to its basic Windows themes.
-
WoW...up until '05
yikes!!!
There seems to be people selling them on Amazon! still...
Click
Edit: You can cop NT and '98 too
And u can install it in VMware also.... -
I think that it only comes on floppy anyway... So unless it's a vm I don't see how he's going to install it..
-
lol no, Windows 95 came on a CD just like Windows 98.

If you want a very basic OS why not just go for a very stripped down version of Linux with something like Fluxbox? I think going back to win 95 is useless, especially, as Greg pointed out, the Viruses. -
Just buy it from EBay if you want to use it. You just need to search 'windows 95'.
Ain't that tough ----

Still running 98 myself - dunno why you'd want it (or 95 for that manner)
If you simply want nostalgia get a NES/watch cartoons online! -
I still have my 95a diskettes. I doubt they work anymore. I'd have to dig out my external USB floppy drive. It may not work anymore either. I created the diskettes off my first computer, a Compaq Presario. Amazingly enough, it is also the most expensive computer I've ever bought. Now I buy inexpensive used notebooks. Save on hardware and save on electric.
I have 95c on CD. "with USB support" is printed on the CD. USB support came out right after serial, then parallel, port support.
-
I have 95 on cd AND floppy
-
Get Windows 98, not sure why you'd want 95?
-
Guess I was lucky that I didn't have to install Windows 95 using floppies back then, I remembered I only used the floppy startup disk.
-
LOL! Why would you think that?
Jesus...you guys speak of Win 95 like its ancient.
It seems like just yesterday that I was using Win3.11 and AOL2.5 -
Whatever you do, don't bother installing WindowsME!
Anyone remember that? What a horrible OS that was -
paper_wastage Beat this 7x7x7 Cube
Windows NT was bad too....
took 6 minutes on my old laptop to boot up.... (2-3 minutes for the same laptop) -
My Windows ME was really smooth and I'd pick that over 95 or 98 any day.
-
If you don't mind copyright infringement, you could always download an ISO of Windows 95.
I'll also have to agree with the fact that everyone is talking about Windows 95 like it's ancient. Hell, I was using Windows 3.1 as my main OS until 2004 when I was able to copy each individual install file for 95 to a floppy disk and then transfer it from the floppy to my laptop's hard drive. BTW, the laptop used was a Dell Latitude XPi P133SD. -
Can't find 1. I got Ubuntu to work fine in Virtual Box but as for 95 ...
-
Doesn't it come with virtual pc?
-
I have Virtual Box and no it doesn't. Tried VPC also.
-
Well, maybe on the sites you visit you will. But I did manage to browse the Net on Windows 95 for 5-10 minutes this summer without so much as a single virus, let alone one of death. And that was without anti-virus software installed.
95 is less bloated? Windows 98 requires a whopping 16 MB of RAM, instead of 4 MB, you know. Though it'll run in Safe Mode with 8 MB.
Nope. VPC 2004 supports Win95 as a guest OS, but doesn't come with it. VPC 2007 does not support Win95 as a guest OS (IIRC Windows 98 SE is the first it does). -
*Ahem*
-
Windows ME > 95/98/98SE
-
Lol haha so no one has Win95? God I don't wanna go out and BUY it lol seeing as how I won't use it, I just want to play around with it.

As already said, if you don't mind copyright infringement then look for "Windows All in One" DVD.
But the "better" way is eBay, or maybe a friend has an old Win 95 CD -

I am sorry stewie but I must disagree. ME was the biggest piece of crap OS that MS ever released. My friend had it and I unfortunately got to use it often, many things were broken on it. I would rather use 95. MS themselves admitted that they released it even though it was very incomplete. -
I guess I must be one of the few lucky ones? Cause Windows ME was pretty smooth for me, more stable than any 95/98/98SE that I ever used.

Was anyone at the Start Launch that August?
Boy that was a fun day, sitting on the grass with my new girlfriend (ThinkPad 701) < you know I paid nearly 7 thousand dollars for it? There was a feeling in the air that has never again been captured by an OS or game console launch by MS, and I have been to nearly all of them.
Maybe it was the moment and a more innocent time, but 95 lives in a special place in my heart.
I still have 95B on that 701. 22 floppies and the original box for both. -
Why look for Win95 when Windows 3.11 for Workgroups is still available?
It's the End for 3.11!!:
Where to get Windows 95?
