Hey guys.... I have 2 laptops at home... i am planning to buy a 3 user licence version of a Internet Security Package.... I have 2 choices
McAfee Internet Security Suite 2008
&
Norton Internet Security 2008
Which should i choose.....
All Of your advices, i hope, will help me.............
I forgot to tell my both laptops is loaded with vista
-
Does it have to be these two choices?
If you'd rather stick to a well-known brand, I do recommend Trend Micro over these two...however if it has to be these two, I'd say go with Norton IS 2008. Norton's antivirus used to be horrible but its new versions (2007 and 2008) have improved significantly. -
There should be a sticky on what i'm about to say but oh well:
Don't buy either, they muck up your system for gajillions of reason i really don't want to explain, just get the well known freebies like: Avast Antivirus (the free one), AVG antivirus, Antivir antivirus, Spybot search and destroy, Ad-aware 2007, a squared free, and if your on XP Comodo firewall pro. If your on vista wait a while until 3.0 comes out and vista support is added. I also recommend NOD32 which you have to pay for but it's highly recommended by most. -
as Sam said, if need to be one of these 2 then Norton, else Kaspersky 7 is good too
-
Yes, if you are willing to go out of the "well known brands", Kaspersky and NOD32 are highly recommended antivirus programs.
-
I disagree Sam. NOD32 is well known, but i personally don't hear many people hailing kaspersky.
-
NOD32 is well known in this forum, but how many of the average consumers know about it? The same goes for Kaspersky.
Still now, most consumers do not know that ASUS makes notebooks, and some don't even know ASUS exists at all. -
Have you considered Norton 360? It includes automatic backup, which is a good thing if your like me, I always forget to backup
-
I guess your right Sam. I believe some people don't even know dell makes computers.
-
Comodo firewall is often reckoned to be the best desktop firewall out there, and it is free, too (you need to get Beta version for Vista support ATM, though). Personally, I don't see much reason for getting big name security packages...

Kaspersky has very good reputation among security techies.
-
I have Norton IS 2008 and I must say its great. Full scans are quick and doesn't use many resources. It's a huge improvement over 2007. It integrates very well with Vista and doesn't clutter anything as far as I've seen.

I am so sorry. -
What? These programs are highly respected and work as intended.
-
Kaspersky is well known among the more geeky folks. It's considered the best.
-
Well, out of the two mention, Norton is probably the better bet. I've never had any problems with it.
-
Norton is the worse thing you can put on a system... macaff is the second worse thing.
After attempting to work with norton over the past two days, I've grown to hate it all over again. It is really bad. Heck, norton won't even uninstall from the laptop... but I disabled it and put avg on it...
avg works like a charm... like the little kid who plays all by himself over in the corner....
norton is the hyper kid who won't sit down or be quiet. Every time you look at your monitor norton is doing something, makes you want to yell, "Be still!!!" -
Best thing you can do for a friend, swap Norton for AVG, they will love you forever. I have done it 6 times now to new Vista notebooks and each time I am amazed at the reduction in boot time and respnsiveness of the computer. I use Webroot at work, but I am going to take a good look at NOD and Kaspersky today for my work pc. I agree with jtmat, Norton makes me angry.

B4 you buy Visit this site
Windows Personal Firewall Analysis
According to that report NIS and Mcafee products are just a waste of money -
If you want to properly uninstall norton use this tool made by symantec:

No, AKAJohnDoe made a joke by highlighting "Sorry to tell but my laptop is loaded with Vista", and he said, "I'm so sorry (to hear)."
-
Well thanx for info.....
also many of you had said that Kaspersky is really good.......
so i have installed Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0 30 days trial version to see how it goes........... -

You have to be a bit careful on that site. While there is good information, not all the reviews are of the current release levels of the available products and not all the products have released fully functional Vista versions yet, either. -
well guys thanx for the help.......... i ran trial versions for different products and finally brought Norton Internet Security 2008 (3 user lic). and unlike old versions this one uses less resources...... and also there was a good deal that made me buy NIS 2008.... coz the final price for this is free......

Norton is a very good product and received a bum rap years ago from folks who managed to screw up their OS and needed to blame something for it.

Norton Internet Suite, at least the 2004-2007 versions, functioned; however, it consumed an inordinate proportion of resources, had perhaps the worst update process ever designed, began nagging to the point of interfering with normal use 2 to 3 months prior to expiration of the subscription, was virtually impossible to remove (Symantec was forced to release a removal tool), and interfered with other products installed (that the competition did not).
I feel Symantec/Norton deserves their reputation. -

Actually, what I was sorry about were the two choices ... I would not choose either ... The highlighting was in the original post.
