Your question is pretty generic, but if you're asking about Windows, i'd say XP for older computers, and Windows 7 for new. Imo the best Microsoft OS is Windows 98SE, but nobody really bothers with it anymore... Except the guys over at MSFN.

100 pages, 14 infractions, and 3 bans later, we'll all come to agree that anyone who disagrees with me on this one is a moron.

    "Best" is far too subjective.

    You could try MS DOS....

I know someone said the military in the UK still works on 95 or 98 because anything else isn't cleared...

There is Linux too - but as this is a Windows Forum I assume you wish to focus on products by Microsoft.

If you have to buy a laptop now and can't wait, get Vista - if you can wait till the 22nd of October get Windows 7.

Now which flavour of those you chose is another matter altogether.

Your uses for the OS and hardware would shurely help.

    Old PC = Windows XP
New PC = Windows Vista or Windows 7
Windows 7 is so far the best. XD!
However, the downside(for me only) is the "too customizable or functionable taskbar" and the "Windows Folder shortcut viewing Layout".
    Windows 7 uses DX 11.
Windows Vista uses DX 10(Rumor said it will be DX 11 sooner or later).
    Windows XP uses DX 9.
Newer DX has the better performance and quality ^^!
