    Windows Vista Business
    or
    Windows Vista Home Premium

Thats pretty much all Im looking at. The Home Basic is lame, Ultimate is to much, and Enterprise isnt for me as I dont own any business :p.

I want to buy XP Retail Edition, and with it get a free upgrade to Vista, here are the deals from NCIX:

Im thinking of buying XP Media Center and getting a free upgrade to Vista Home Premium. What do you guys reckon? I rather do this because buying Vista alone is to expensive.

None of the above? I wouldn't touch Vista with a 10' pole. Personally, I don't think MCE adds anything worthwhile, so I'd go with the XP Pro. But that's just me.

seconded. go home to home premium, or xp pro to business.

Thats me too but I just want it... :p

Even though XP MCE wont be of much use to me...I want to know whether Vista Business is really any better then Vista Home Premium?

I can pay the extra ($10) to get XP Pro and upgrade to Vista Business but is it worth it over the Vista Home Premium?

Unless you really need to have TV recording, there is NO benefit to MCE. I'd go with Pro since you want to upgrade to Vista, since Home's upgrade options are pitiful. Really, all upgrade options are retarded with Vista. Microsoft decided to jack up the price on all except the worst versions, and the bottom of the barrel doesn't have the only redeeming thing about Vista, which is Aero. Screw MS.

Check the Vista Upgrade Advisory, should be able to see differences btwn Business & Home Premium from M$ aspect. Do you plan to dual boot xpPRO & Vista, or overwrite the PRO O\S? You may not have option of not overwriting original O\S, as my test DVD allowed. Vista wants >1GB RAM, >15GB on your HD, I install xp on only 7GB partition. Concur w/ all, but I am upgrading my knowledge level (programming stuff) so I can run GNU/Linux bundles :)
I tested Ultimate B2, RC1 :( and I do not anticipate any benefits from it as I do not game, (or games I have are fine as they are on existing equipment). To realize full Vista experence must buy some new $$$$ hardware (CPU, DDR2, mainboard, + new GPU that is Dx10 certified {when they are made eventually}). IMHO No need to put perfectly useful equipment in the landfill! The benefits / bragging rights realized by a few more FPS as measured by a synthetic Bench Mark is not discernible to the human eye. Let common sense prevail, spend your money on more meaningful things ;) GL
