Is there any one piece of free software that is better than all the others? I am looking for something pretty basic as far as the user interface goes... The more temps it monitors the better![]()

CPUID HWmonitor is simple and does it's job.

As noted, HWMonitor is good. If you want an on-screen display of your temps, see this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=81852

HW Monitor is the best general-purpose one I've seen. Core Temp is very good if you want a free tool that sits in your system tray for CPU temperature monitoring.

I like Speedfan's ability to set alert points for each core, the GPU and HDD. When the temp exceeds one of these points a user defined message pops up. You can also select on of the temps to display in the system tray.

Unfortunately Speedfan doesn't work with many mobile chipsets. I have a hard time recommending it as a good notebook temp software. For desktops, however, it's wonderful.

I would guess that newer chipsets are now supported, while older chipsets were never bothered to be included because the few older notebooks I have lying around don't work with Speedfan.
Either way, you're right; it's worth a try. If it works, great! If not, try some other software. -
