Turns out my college was one of the few that upgraded to Office 2007. So I went for that $60 Office deal. From the opinions I've already heard, some really like it while some really hate it and so far I definitely fall in this latter category that I was thinking of reinstalling 2003. I tried having both of them run concurrently but there were some issues with shared dlls that caused some system instability, so now I find myself using OpenOffice sometimes just to have a GUI that resembles the 'classic' style. For now I think I will leave 2007 on there and force myself to 'try it out'. What are you guys experiences with the Office 2007? Between only Office 2003 and 2007, which one do you prefer?

If I wasn't trying to find out which version of MS Office was more popular, I would have added OpenOffice in there..

I liked 2003 a lot; I mainly used Word, but from my experience, it looked nice and functioned well for quite some time. But the whole $60 Ultimate deal is pretty hard to ignore. I'm getting a copy and though I'm sure it's got it's bugs, it's probably the future, especially with the whole new .docx format thing. I think I'll be able to deal with the kinks unless it chews up my term paper or something. :) I mean, you can't justify a $5-600 savings and just let it sit around, can you?

I like Office 2007 better for a few reasons. The features and functions are right in the front. I like the ribbon GUI interface...Microsoft did good with introducing this new interface, which I think will come to the Explorer in the next Windows OS. The other things are minor, but it just feels more comfortable to me to use Office 2007, plus it looks slick in black in Vista. :)

2003 for now, since it's still more available...2007 seems to be confusing a little bit, coming from 2003.

    No option for 97? XD

But between 2003 and 2007 I still prefer 2003, though I haven't played with 2007 all that much.

I love 2007, think it's great and nice and easy to use!
On the other hand, my father in law hates it because it is so easy to use because he is an IT lecturer and teaching how to use MS Office is one of the ways he makes his living!!

2007 is much better, you can create a lot of interesting things very easily.

The only thing I dislike is when you save things in 2003 and earlier versions in office you lose too much of the material you created if you used any of the new 07 content.

    2007....

plus, on word 2007, including page numbers in your papers was wayyyy easier than in word 03....just click the "page number" button on the screen and that's it and it would already do it to where one click of that will number you pages in order, compared to 03 where you'd have to go through hell and back just to get the page numbers and then back to hell and back just to get it to number in order.........but that's just me...

hahah me too. the page number thing never worked out right. especially if you wanted to start with a number other than one. or if you didn't want the first page numbered... oh god it brings back bad memories.

I voted for 2007, but that's not always true.

On my desktop, I greatly prefer 2003. It allows for more keyboard shortcut, toolbar editing, and macro programming. While 2007 allows macro programming, it's harder to get those macro's to work with the ribbon toolbars.

On my tablet, I prefer 2007. It's hard to describe, but it does a few things that would be tiresome to do with a pen in 2003.

I prefer 2003 because I've used it the most.

I haven't really sat down with 2007 and gotten to terms with the UI, it certainly looks good. First time I went to use 2007 to print something for a customer I was totally lost, everything had moved!

Undoubtedly with time I'll come to like 2007. As it is the new standard productivity suite, and I will be forced to use it. xD

After 3 months of 2007, I find it better than 03...
MLA/APA formatting ftw! no more playing around with the settings for 5 minutes!

yeah thats true. I remember when i was writing a huge report and it took forever to find these hacks around starting page numbers that weren't the first (from cover pages / table of contents). And yeah it is much easier to do this in Word07 but a feature like this I would have expected to be right in the first couple versions i mean like damn.. it took 12 versions to get this right?

Familiarity is something to get passed if you prefer Office 2007 or Office 2003. I never even knew about Office 2007 until I saw it on my desktop at work earlier this year. I liked the UI instantly and downloaded a trial version for my desktop at home. Now I have Office 2007 on my laptop and I have never used Office 2003 since. It actually looks pre-dated and old to me, just as OpenOffice and other Office Suites look to me.

I've heard that the Explorer in the next Windows OS might have the same Ribbon UI as Office 2007 does. That could be pretty cool.

You need some time to get used to the ribbon thing. But after you mastering it, the experience is great. And i personally like its black around theme.

The only thing not so great about Office (like previous one also) is the price.

I'm using 2003 at the office, but 2007 at home. I'm still more used to working with 2003, so that's why I like 2003 beter for now, but I didn't really give 2007 a chance yet :)

I am getting used to Office 2007 and the more I use it the more I like it. The interface once customized is amazing and the responsiveness of the programs are much improved since 2003. 2007 is far superior once you get acclimated to the changes.
