Most of the notebooks I'm looking to purchase have Vista. My question is which edition is best? I need to use the laptop for work but also will use for media, photos, etc. If a notebook comes with Home Premium, is it worth the extra money to upgrade to Business or Ultimate do you think? On that same note, would it be better to have Home Premium that's 64-bit or Business that's only 32? TIA.

Depends on your needs and what you'll be doing - if you plan on doing a lot of multi-media stuff, then Home Premium might be the way you want to go. I prefer Vista Business for the networking (domain) capability. As for 32b vs. 64b...six one way, half a dozen the other. If the apps you'll be using will run on 64bit and you plan on putting more than 3GB of RAM in your machine, then go that route.

Also, if you need to use Cisco VPN Client, note that it is NOT 64-bit compatible. -
Check out this table:

The Home Premium has more multimedia functions than Business, they're the Media Center, Windows DVD Maker and Windows Movie Maker in HD, but a lot of people use 3rd party software for that instead. Business will give more business functions such as Windows Fax and Scan. In your case, maybe the Business version will suit you more. The Ultimate will have everything, but also will have too much unused features for most users, which will either waste more system resource or you will ended up turning them off anyway. As for 32 vs. 64, stick with 32 for now, especially if you're not too sure about both versions. You can always change to 64 in the future if needed, your key will work in both 32 and 64 versions. Put it this way, at this moment, under 4 GB of RAM, stick with 32 and you will have less problems with drivers and software. -
Get either Home Premium or upgrade to Ultimate.

If its not costing you much to upgrade to Ultimate, I would surely go for it. I got Ultimate after reading around a lot, but still without knowing fully / technically in-depth info about it, but now I am really happy I went for Ultimate. So I would suggest ultimate.
And Sushi >You are way off the mark. The OP didn't ask if he should take Vista or XP. He asked which edition 'among' Vista
Cheers.
Which version of Vista is for me?
