Hi!
So I would like the ability to read/type in webpages/documents in a foreign language. In windows XP you just had to add the language, add the language selector bar thingy onto your task bar and then you could just click to change what language you are typing in.
Now can I have this same functionality in Win7 Professional or do I need Ultimate?
Thanks!

All the versions of Windows 7 have the foreign language support you describe - the basic Windows 7 Home Premium will be just fine for your usage.

Home Premium will do just fine. There is no real need for Pro or Ultimate if that is all you are doing.

Thanks for the quick response and answers!
I just became concerned because the description of ultimate describes "language support"
For the average user, is there any advantage to pro or ultimate? -

Thanks, more extensive list than I had found.
What I was noticing was the "Multilingual User Interface language packs" is this something different and above and beyond the functionality that I am looking for? -
I believe that is referring to the ability to change between different languages for the actual Windows interface (ie: different language on buttons, different language in Control Panel, etc). Typically, Windows installations are locked to one language for the interface, and only Win7 Ultimate can swap between the interface language packs.
However, any version has foreign language typing support in documents, webpages, IMing, etc etc. I have Simplified Chinese typing enabled on my T500's Win7 Pro installation. -
Excellent. Thank you. I am glad I asked, that saves me some money!
I have recently been in the OSX world where there is only 1 version, so hard to tell what feature is the one I was actually looking for

Correct, however for Professional edition it could be purchased as an extra (or given for free under the Academic MSDN (MSDNAA) to students).
Which version of Windows 7 do I need?
