I am rather curious about how many people are using Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 beta regularly.

I myself do.

I am worried about switching. I have heard people on this forum talk about how hard it is to uninstall. Some people said that once you do get it uninstalled, version 6 doesn't work well.
If this proves untrue, then I might give it a go. I love trying out software. -
I gave it a go and just could not deal with the horrible menu/function bar. They should never have locked that one bar on the right side. Even with old style view (or whatever they call it) it still looks horrible.
No probs with uninstall. -
I use it regularily for months now. Installed DevToolbar. Works fine.
Needs polishing though, but it is fast and reliable. Quick tabs are nice.
Cheers, -
I kinda like the toolbar on the right, BatBoy..
The quick tabs, I thought was a cool feature. I never have enough tabs open to take advantage of it though.
My only 2 complaints that I have gotten over by now:
1. "classic" toolbar (file, edit, view etc) should be on top of navigation buttons.
2. It is really "tight.." I feel like I can't "make it mine" easily.
Otherwise, I've been impressed -
Nope, I'm thinking about trying it, but I'm currently using FireFox...
At the moment I'm testing out Opera, and I think I like it more than FF... -
Firefox is the only browser I will use, for now.
-
Try Opera titaniummd, it's an easy switch and you may like it better than Firefox.
I do like firefox's extensions though, but Opera comes default with all the ones I use. -
I use it as my main browser. I quite like it. It is having some teething issues with some websites such as blogger.com (the wysiwyg editor) but other than that I quite enjoy it. I like the zoom function, the tabs and even the new layout.
-
It does really look nice, the interface, but I like Opera's better...
I think I'm leaving Firefox for Opera, I love it. -
I really like IE7. Microsoft's finally got a browser which can compile CSS and XML properly. In fact, IE7 compiles it even better than Firefox.
On my laptop IE7 is definitely faster than Firefox. Despite the absence of extensions, IE7 has nearly all the functions you will need for browsing any website. I now very rarely use Firefox (come to think of it, I only use it to test cross browser compatibility). -
I did the mistake of installing IE7, and hate it.
Anyway I use IE only for web development.
for regular net browsing i use FireFox -
No reason (except windows updates) to use any IE product since FIREFOX came on the scene.
-
Ok, after making the HUGE mistake of telling Zone Alarm to not allow web checker to start w/ windows...and a reformat of the entire system (partially to clense, but mostly because I screwed up a few settings trying to uninstall IE7b2)...I have gotten this up and running.
If the install fails, it is impossible...IMPOSSIBLE...to remove. I tried so many things, obviously not the right things, and eventually just had to pack it in.
However, I didn't let that beat me. I'm back running. Thinner than before too. I really enjoy this Internet Explorer so far. I don't know why it feels lighter than FF, it sure doesn't run lighter. It's just about 30mb right now, w/ one tab. That's not tiny by any means. However, it loads quick and browsing is snappy.
The interface takes some getting used to, but it's nice. I'll keep it around for awhile...till they finally release it anyway. -
I'll never go back to IE no matter what version. Well at least until you can surf without constant adds throughout your pages. Not pop ups but adds. Anyway I'm staying with FF for now. I keep trying Opera as new versions come out but just can't find an adblock program to work with it smoothly. FF with Adblock and updater is the best system I've been able to find so far.

I just love IE7, been using it for almost 2 months now on my desktop computer and it's really comfortable.
It was the first thing i installed on my new dell inspiron 6400. Big mistake! It keeps crashing after a few seconds everytime. I have to use firefox until next beta or final comes out, bummer... -
I haven't updated my version of Internet Explorer 7. I'm still running the original public beta release. I'm not too impressed. I hate the new arrows that MS is putting in it's products. They look like ----. I also hate how you can't customize the layout.
Another complaint I have, which is strictly aesthetic, is that the icon looks stupid. I hate the blue "e" with the nasty gold ring around it. It is so lame. It looks like a Windows 95 icon.
They should also change the name. IE7 is stupid. Seven isn't a good number (but the movie is good). Perhaps something without a number. When a program has "XP" in it, it sounds like it would look slick and run well. Perhaps that is a route that Microsoft should consider taking.
There is plenty of room for improvement. There are a lot of things wrong with Firefox, but IE7 is a lot worse. Until some of the problems get fixed (and I doubt anything I care about will get changed), I'll stick with Firefox.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
...but I still have IE7 beta 2
-
I agree the only reason for IE is updates and such when necessary otherwise by choice I use firefox or seamonkey (I like seamonkey best) Its ugly, lacks extensions and on top of that it lacks security (firefox could use more security to be fair though)
-
Installed IE7b2 on my desktop. You can definitely tell it's a beta, cuz if this is how the final is gonna look and behave you can keep it. Besides, it really bungled all my settings in Windows Media Player (and from doing a Google search it appears I'm not the only one). Only a nightmare of an uninstall of IE7 and a couple of uninstall/reinstalls of WMP finally fixed it. I'm usually stay away from anything MS puts out that has a beta tag on it. Should've known better. Oh well, live and learn, live and learn.....
-
IE7 doe slook nice, I like Opera's look better though, and FF can be very easily personalized nicely.
-
I had it...crashed my 8600
Never trying it again
Plus im a FF fan at heart -
Try Opera nick, if you haven't already, you may like it better than FF, I know I did.
-
Hmm I never gave Opera a shot...though I have IE7 beta and FF installed, FF being my primary browser.
Whats so good about Opera that FF doesnt have? -
It's faster in my opinion, smoother look, just more user friendly to me..
-
I installed the first beta of IE 7 and use it now and then. It looks like Microsoft just stole parts of Firefox for a lot of IE 7. That said, it has been smooth sailing with it on my T43. Unfortunately, I tried installing the second beta release on another system that was also running the latest release of IE 6. On that machine, everything went haywire and IE 7 could not be uninstalled (even via manual deletion from the registry) and a full reformat was required.
I'd say use it at your own risk--for not at least. -
IE 7 isn't too bad. I like how it displays webpages correctly compared to FF. The one anoying thing about it. When a page finishes loading it has to be on top. Ill be browsing and switch over to chat and it always puts the page in my face. I looked through the options and nothing is mentioned about it being on top when a page loads. For browsing, I likey. For watching movies while browsing, I want to kill it.
-
I use FF and Opera. I will never go bad to IE even if they give me candy. Remember what your mom said, "Never take candy from strangers."
Plus FF and Opera came up with the idea for tabs.

I think it's just plain stupid that it's even in there.
-
-
I like it in someways, I dislike it in others.
I don't like how few configuration options it has. It's not very customizeable or light on processes.
The whole problem with uninstallation should have scared me away the first time. Now that it's on there (after a full format) it works well. My computer as a whole works better. It had gotten cluttered up with software anyway. -
i am a Firefox diehard user but would at times use IE only if the webpage does not show well with the former. i updated my IE6 to IE7 B2 to see how it looks, feels, works, performs. i would say there are significant improvements but they are not enough to motivate me to divorce with my Firefox and change allegiance.
-
Lemme know if you need help setting it up. -
I have IE7 installed on my Windows computers (excpet my old Gateway 7422GX, on which for some reason it will not load web pages from the address bar unless you type "http://www.*.com" in its entirety). I prefer it greatly to IE6 (you have no idea how many times I click the middle mouse button on a link on the computers at school only to have nothing happen). However, it's lack of customization and downright stupid toolbar design (not to mention that it's a Microsoft product *shudder*) keep me on Firefox. Yes, I tried Opera, but Firefox is less resource intensive, more customizable, and comes with Ubuntu and DSL by default anyways.

I use IE7 for using Windows Live Mail, since it isn't compatible with Firefox (Yet).
It is a lot better than IE6 but I think the user interface is horrible. I wish firefox used less memory! -
I wouldn't hold my breath on firefox compatibility. Especially if you have a windows system. It's just like trying to get Windows updates with FF...except without the activex controls.

Psh. I took a look at IE 7, makes me think of a crippled microsoft firefox. I run IE Tab with FF, which allows me to set specific sites to load in IE in a tab in FF or to refresh a tab and switch the rendering engine. Compatibility issues are squashed. Firefox prevails.
Woohoo.

I still rather Opera, you can load IE in it too, just a bit harder...
Also, curious, why are you using FF, but not using Thunderbird, but instead using Microsoft Outlook? -
I am not a very loyal person. I may love firefox, but thunderbird didn't cut it for me. I ran thunderbird and a few calender/scheduling apps for a while, liked it all just fine, but then I realized that MS outlook was already installed and did it all for me, save RSS which I ise FF for anyway, so I could save a some space and time by just using outlook.
Mike -
I wont use it...anyway use Firefox or Opera 9
Who is using IE7 beta?
