Who thinks Google should make a video encoder that encodes your video to what they stream it as? Would this not make the process a lot quicker having a lot smaller file to upload as well as take off strain from their servers.
-
That would also enable other sites to become like Youtube or alternatively encourage people to store files on their pc, because they are smaller. These, I think, would go against Google's plans for everyone to move on the web/cloud and have Google as the dominating entity on it.
-
It would be interesting. But it does add another step to the upload process, which IMO is a bad move considering their audience.
-
I didn't know Google's servers were capable of being threatened by server overload...
There's a bunch of encoders already out there that improve on the streaming process, so adding one more won't be of any value and only cause confusion.
-
imo, google's strength has always been that they are for everybody... no complications, no hassles.
straight, simple, etc....
besides internet in most places have developed past needing that.
there are advantages for serious users... same as firefox...
but for the average joe... those advantages arent really used...
my opinions -
Well I mean no matter what format you upload the video into Youtube automatically recodes it to its format. If they would have this set taken out by letting the person's computer encode it then you would not have to worry about what video format you need to encode it to. Since Youtube has up to 4 encoded formats as far as I know. (MP4, 3GP, FLV, HD)
Having you video encoded and uploaded in the right format would mean your video would take a lot less time to be processed. I've waited many hours for a video to be processed then I ended up not working right and had to upload it again.
Or the program would detect the highest video quality possible, upload that first then their server could encode that to make the lower quality formats. -
It would help with peeps that have very slow or capped bandwidth.

Anyways, my letting the person's computer to enocde it would be environmentally unfriendly, as well as troublesome. Right now, you do not have to worry about what format you have to encode it to either. -

Where I'm going is that my internet is really slow at 320kb upload. I'm saying it would be nice for google to have a program that encodes your video to the best quality that is possible for Youtube at a smaller file size.
I've spent hours trying to find the right format and settings to encode my video to and I still probably don't have the best settings. It even after make the file a 8th the size from the original takes a long time to upload, then you have to wait for the video to be processed and everything else. I've waited a minimum of 10 hours once between the uploading and processing.
I just thought it would be nice to have to right format all ready at a small file size so that it is watchable once uploaded. -

Also, the reason why it takes so long to process is not because the server is overloaded or anything. The video is quequed up and fed to the converter server to be converted, thus your video might not be converted immediately.
After encoding is done, it has to be screened for inappropriate content...etc.
If you upload your own video to youtube with the right format..etc, it'll probably take just as long to process. -

I think the H264/AAC content I upload to youtube has a smaller file size than the .mp4 you can download from there site after they process it lol.
The quality loss is so high, no point in having some kind of "google encoder" as they encode it fast enough for you and you wouldnt want that low quality stuff on your computer if you have access to the original. -
Okay, guess that pretty much ruins my hope of faster uploading.
I've been encoding my video at 3000kbps. Does the 1000 look any different when uploaded to Youtube? -
last I heard Google only uploads about 20hours of video per hour... so that's actually very little stress on a fast server.
Who thinks Google should make an encoder for Youtube?
