I'm running MCE and have no intensions of going to Vista anytime soon. I have all the upgrade disks for Home Premium but they're tucked away in my computer desk. I just don't see the point because all my games and programs run flawlessly. It's an old saying but if it aint broke, don't fix it.

I'm in the same boat as you are. I can't find at least 2 reasons why should I make the switch. Aero looks nice but it distracts me too much and because of that I can't be more productive. Besides, everybody's criticizing Vista, so why should I use it?

Funny how people start a new thread on the same subject when a previous thread gets no more responses. Please read previous posts and respond to those before starting a new one. I know your needs comes first but please..

Generally, people criticize Vista because they expected more from it. It's been 5 years, so the new OS should offer some pretty exciting new features, right? Well, to be honest, it really isn't that exciting. However, that's not to say it doesn't have slight advantages here and there. Just because they didn't make substantial changes, doesn't mean it isn't better.

This is all provided that your have working drivers and no compatibility issues, which, despite what you might hear, is not that uncommon. (You usually only read about failure stories because not many people write success stories.)

its not for notebook users. alot of the notebook users won't have 4GB of ram. vista is really good if you have alot of ram like 4GB 'cos of the superfetch feature. my desktop loads programs really quickly 'cos of it.

I love vista personally. it runs faster, it looks better, it has better security.

So yes I agree with the saying "if it aint broke dont fix it" however your not fixing XP your replacing it!

Suit yourself and stay on XP your not hurting anybody, but honestly whats the point in starting a thread saying "i dont want to move to vista"? Cant we do somthing constructive atleast and have "reasons to stay with xp instead of moving to vista"

That may serve a purpose to all the readers on border between vista and xp, then they can read the facts and opinions on why one OS is better than the other. Honestly I have both, I use dual boot. But I have nothing agaisnt vista or any issues with it.

You should just SEE how great the aero interface looks when you have a few windows open and a dreamscene animated background its like a whole new world, very techy.

Id post up some videos of my own with my favorite setups but my fraps is broken :p so here are some other ones that are on youtube:

thats the stock MS ones, but a free addon from stardock lets you use .dream files and they have hundreds more. My favs are the plasma, and the rollercoaster :p but I like the stock one with the puddle of water and the reflection.

Mind you I use a big 37" monitor so its very scenic.

I'm starting to like and hate Vista. It's an on-off relationship. :( If XP can be updated to the features found in Vista, how great can that be.

    alot of them can,

there is 3rd party addon for the sidebar, for the 3d flip (and a 3d cube for desktops)

there is prototype for transparent windows (not nearly as nice tho as vistas) I think the only thing its lacking right now that I rather enjoy from vista is the dreamscene program.

thats pretty much all of it at the interface level besides the new folder layout and stuff.

I even have the vista theme on my xp install, it looks just like vista but with a square button instead of a round one (thin taskbar wich I prefer)

I can get screenshots up later for you if your intrested.

If they can port Readyboost, Ready (add in the name here) technologies back to XP, that will be  I will miss them when i go back to XP.

Btw i had tried all the look like vista stuffs, personally i find that they consume alot of memory, but thanks anyway!

readyboost is not a big deal from what I read... its just like the turbo robinson stuff and people reported that actually slowing things down.

the turbo cache feature of vista is nice tho, thats whats really speeding things up, that and just a more efficant design overall. the x64 version I run really flys.

Everybody says heroin is bad, too. Should I not trust them?

I don't like Vista because of all the copy protection crap embedded deep within the OS, the WGA, the other things that assume that I'm a criminal by default. What happens with that is that the real criminals get around the security and still run the OS, those of us who are tired of it go elsewhere, and it really only hurts legitimate users of the software. Something like 1% of WGA's flaggings of non-genuine software are erroneous, causing legitimate users to go through hoops to use software they purchased. And then you get things like Linux validating as Windows, which means that it can't be that hard to break.

So what's the benefit? I don't like paying money to a company that treats me like a criminal and keeps checking up on me, just for paying for and using their product. I've got self respect. I'm not gonna use Vista.

I will not even consider moving till Vista till after SP1 is released for it and until Windows XP SP3 is released, then I might take upgrading to Vista more seriously.

I've been using Vista over over a year since Beta 2. I removed XP professional on my pc and installed Vista Ultimate. I upgraded RC1 & RC2 and then installed RTM which is the released version. I purchased my Acer and it came with Vista Ultimate. I use the 32 bit version with 2 Gig of ram.

Actually Vista runs very fine on newer notebooks... and 4GB of RAM is not necessary... I'm sure you could get away with 1GB is you wanted...
