... make that text upper case (or vice versa)? Seems so simple and yet I've searched high and low for a software that can do this and haven't found anything for Windows or OS X.
Personally, I think this should be an OS feature that should have been invented by now.
Does anyone know about anything that can do this?

Browsers aren't word processors you know. If you want a browser to do all a word processor does it will be too bloated with code so I wouldn't even want to ask for that feature.

Agreed it should be an OS feature, and I honestly don't know why it isn't. Perhaps you should go file a software patent on it, those seem to be all the rage right now.

Any good text editor will also have support for this. My new personal favorite is the $60 editor called Sublime Text. It's crazy good and available for OS X, Windows and Linux. -
