I went through my new HP laptop and changed some things around to get Vista to run better but apparently screwed something up, as well as deleting some things i wanted. However when i try to system restore i get an error message that it cannot be done. It says it is not functioning properly and the Volume Shadow Copy service used by System restore is not working

    Start menu
    Type "services". Press Enter.
Look at the entry for "Volume Shadow Copy". If it's set to "Disabled", change it to "Manual" (the default setting).
Also... right-click Computer > Properties > System protection > Make sure automatic restore points are enabled for your drive.

Of course, that's all for future use. If it didn't create restore points in the past, then you can't go back to those points. So... you may need to reinstall Windows if something's messed up.
