I've got both Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox installed on my S6231 and in IE, the drive makes a clicking sound each time I open a new page or click a link. In Firefox, it makes no sound at all. It's as quiet as a mouse. Strange? Any one know why this is?

The HD is a Fujitsu 40GB 5400 RPM drive, if that makes any difference. Thanks.

Another reason to use FF? [ :D]

I have no clue, but it doesn't sound very safe with that clicking..

The area of the Hard Drive where IE is located might be damaged. You should run a disk check to find out for sure.

Ran a disk check and it reported no errors. Only occurs while in IE. I'm wondering if Mr. Gates is tracking my keystrokes [ :D]. It's only slightly annoying and again, only when in IE. If I turn the volume down, I don't even hear it which also makes me think it may have something to do with the integrated sound.

do yourself a favor and check the setting i posted above. turn that associated sound off and reply back if the "hard drive" sound goes away.

it's not your hard drive if you can control the volume

drumfu, how do I turn the sound off? I see that this controls the "clicking" sound but I don't see an obvious way to turn it off. I see an option at the top that says "sound sceme" and then when I expand it, the options are "No Sounds" and "Windows Default." Would I chose the "No Sounds" option? If so, does that only affect the Start Nagavation event? Thanks for your and everyone's help on this subject.

Hey! I was noticing the same thing!

I figured it out, and it DID stop it.

When "Start navigation" is highlighted, you can go below it and click the pull down menu and scroll to the very top and select "(None)".

That will turn the sound off, and stop the "click".

(I thought it was the HDD too!!!!!) [B)]

Never thought I'd be into THIS stuff!
