Why does it take so long to get permission to view folders?

I've noticed that whenever I install Windows 7 and try to open the XP:\Documents and Settings\My Name\ folder on Windows 7 (where XP is the drive letter Win7 uses for the XP drive), I get an error that I need administrator rights to access the folder (though I already am using an administrator account, albeit the Win7 one). I tell Win7 to get permission to access the folder, and this process takes a good 3-4 minutes, during which time I cannot access the folder. Has anyone else encountered this delay?

I do have a password on my XP account, so perhaps it's trying to break the password to get access, but considering that XP x64 had no trouble whatsoever accessing the same folder on my XP x86 partition, I'm not sure why Windows 7 is having such a hard time accessing it. Seems like a simple switch of permissions in a fraction of a second would be enough, but apparently that's not the case :(.

Windows Vista/7 environment is that NO ONE is true Admin, this prevent form malware to empty your start menu, delete system/drivers files, delete/modify/replace programs. Like the famous A/V trick where the malware kills your A/V and put a fake application that looks identical to your A/V, and runs it back. This fake A/V is a fake scanner, just some fake progress bars passing and telling you you have no updates and no virus when it isn't the case.

It takes to gain permission because it needs to do change permission (elevation of your permission on that folder) to access that folder.
However, it is not normal that it take 3-4minutes. Make sure that you have all the drivers installed of Win7, and that your HDD is not corrupted or have errors using the CheckDisk utility.

the reason is, it goes trough all the files to propagate your win7 user to access rights of the xp folders and files in there. and i bet you have quite some files in.

but it should do this only once?

am i far off at this moment? i normally change the permissions manually, and then, i only have to do this once.. but the propagation takes quite long :)
