Running Windows 7 64-bit. Every once in a while when shutting off my computer I get the message "Installing updates 1 of 16" and then it goes and proceeds to install the updates. The thing is, I didn't install anything from Windows Update during the session or anytime a few days prior. Is this normal?

Will happen usually after a Tuesday, this is normal if you set it to install automatically. It will avoid installing any updates especially ones which require a restart until you shut down. I get the same message when I shut down my computer as well.

This is completely normal if you have Windows Update set to automatically install updates.

Ahh, I see. My Windows Update is indeed set to install updates automatically. I've always turned it off, not sure how it turned back on. I did a fresh format not too long ago and it's possible I forgot to change this setting. Thanks.

Maybe, but if you do turn it back off, make sure to update manually, there's nothing worse than an unpatched OS in terms of security and not just for you.
