I'm running Vista Home Premium 64 bit. Sometimes when I open up the laptop to wake it from sleep, the screen will light up, go dark for a moment, and then come back up in 16-bit color. This has happened more frequently recently, but I've noticed it from time to time going back at least a few months. Anyone have any ideas? (It's not a serious problem; I can just switch it back, but it certainly seems pretty random.) Thanks for the help.

Try a different set of GPU drivers.

Yep, GPU drivers need to be changed.

Its definitely part of the GPU driver - I know my Vaio can change from 32Bit to 16Bit to save electricity -> battery saver mode.

    Question is:
    Why does it happen...
You don't have an strange power plan set up, with 16Bit on battery or something like that?

No, it definitely has nothing to do with power-saver settings. I did take the opportunity to update the gpu drivers though. I hadn't noticed that new ones were out. Hopefully that should take care of the problem; thanks, all.
