How come I cannot transfer files to a flash drive without my system almost crashing because its so slow, and what is the reason for the ridiculous transfer speeds? Is this something to do with Vista or is it another problem?
When I try and transfer 4GB worth of files to a 8GB flash drive this is what I get:
![]()
6.3MB/sec!?!
Also when the files are transferring I can't do anything else on my system, if I try to open firefox it will take like 5 minutes to open.
EDIT: Wow, I spelled cripple wrong![]()

I believe transfer rate depends on what size files you are transferring; many small files(16kbs or so) or larger ones. many small files take longer to write. Also what corsair flash drive are you using. The best flash drives out there only write at like 18MB/s tops.
So 6.32MB/s might seem reasonable.
why your system crashes during this is another problem -
Also, if you have a slow harddrive, that will not help.
What is your Harddrive Speed? (ie:4200rpm, 5400rpm, 7200rpm) -
I am transferring from a WD Velociraptor to a Corsair Flash Voyager 8GB.

Might seem like a silly question, but do you have Vista SP1 installed? There were improvements to file copying in SP1, affecting both speed and usability.

Hey
Speed is not so bad ... in my pc also the speed is 7 to 8mbps.
So u know the more specious the flash drive the more slow it is.
Still format it ..try again. And check ur HDD from BIOS.
And let us know.
Thank You. -
Yes, this happens in Vista frequently. Don't open anything when transferring large files. Although it looks like explorer crashing, the file transfer will be successful eventually.

that is slow , my patriot 8 gb drive transfers at 14-17 mbps
Why does transferring files criple my system?
