Why is Mcafee's security suite the biggest piece of bloatware in the world. I swear it installs 10 things that load up on boatup when fully installed. Early today I removed Spamkiller and that was 4 just for that. Do they really not know how to optimize this stuff? (and the only reason im using it is I got a year free from dell.) Or I'd so install Trend Internet Security.

Mcafee isnt the only bloated piece of software, Norton is the same.
I prefer using NOD32, It has fast detection and it's virtually a feather weight on ur comp.
Trend micro is a good software to use for security, not as bloated as Mcafee. -
free crap is still crap

McAfee virus scan is a pretty decent piece of software, but all the other stuff (like that spam killer, which you don't really need unless you are someone who doesn't pay attention to what you install) is pure bloatware. The only piece of McAfee worth keeping is their virus scan. Everything else isn't exactly useful (just use windows firewall and buy a router with built in firewall and you're safe).

Mcafee offers the best performance and protection out there. Its a pain to install and is a bit bloated. I use the firewall plus windows firewall plus a router etc. but I'm a security freak
Norton just had a huge hole they had to patch so... -
I hate McAfee and Norton too, there are so many pointless features that are utterly useless to me. I use Sophos Anti-Virus. Love it.

avast+avg+zone alarm+microsoft defender (free and GOOD version) = no system resource hog, no headache
4 years plus and ongoing ...
but then, when one really wants to "virus-es" u, u will get "virus-ed"
cheers ... -
avast + AVG?? Overkill??? Surely one of them is enough. AVG has never failed me before (stopped using it when I got McAfee).

Right now I'm forced to use McAfee at my university. When I graduate next semester, I'm excited to try NOD32. It's a hair under $40, but according to many it is really light, efficient, and has the best detection rates out there. Sounds like a winner to me.
I like McAfee, but I don't like having the 40mb on startup. I guess I'm stuck with it for now. -
My college requires me to download this program called takecharge. IS that a good antivirus program?
-
I use McAfee antivrus and personal firewall. Theres also a McAfee Desktop Firewall which seems abit more advanced like for an enterprise.
Verdict: Although it slows down start up, its not that bad.The virus scanner is pretty good, and im not too sure about the firewall but that seems to b sufficient enough. No probs with it yet other than sometimes it wont start up for some reason and requires manual start up.
AVG, fast and small.. I use to use it ( free version) but then it seemed to let quite a few viruses go undetected....thats untill u run the infected file... then it warns u that u've been infected :X and cant clean or delete the file.. -

I am very satisfied with my Mcafee anti-virus and anti-spam software. I had it for almost 6 months and it has been working flawlessly. It updates itself couple of times a month on its own, and only load few applications, which don't seem to bother my computer at all. I haven't had any viruses or pop up problems in all this time either.
If pay attention, you will see that many companies and universities use one type or another of Mcafee software to protect their computers. -
I like Mcafee, it comes free with my internet service so I use it. Initially, it would piss me off because of how slow it would load and sometimes it just wouldn't. I went through and uninstalled all the features I don't use like Spamkiller and Privacy service. I also went to sysinfo.org and checked all the McAfee startup items to see if they were needed to keep the software working. I was able to remove just one...MPFtray. It loads the firewall wich is also loaded by the Security center so it was redundant.
Anyway, after that it loads fast and works everytime. I haven't had to mess with it in months.
Why is Mcafee....
