utorrent , whenever it's on, slows down my internet to literally close to stopped?
Even if it's not downloading, when on, any browser hangs.
If I close it, 30s-1min later everything flies again?
Can I make it lose some priority over the browser or something?
-
There must be a small box with a Red/Yellow exclamation mark ?
It could be due to a firewall.... -
Cause download Torrent open many session and can over load internet connection very easy
-
First thing you should do is shut down the 20 NBR browser Windows? Not sure it is the problem but could not hurt?
-
Bad QoS setting perhaps
Is your port forwarding set up? -
This happens to me as well. I have the green check, everything is fine. My DL's usually are very fast, it just lags my internet very badly. So I can't really browse that much when downloading a torrent.
-
I dunno if port forwarding is off, or if there's bad QoS settings involved.
All I know is that whenever any torrent downloading app is on, all my browsers hang.Indefinitely.
Whereas YM or any chatting app works just fine.
How can I give priority to the browser? -
You could try disabling the software firewall, and see if the connection icon goes green. Then check if the browsers work well or not.
Does the browser slow down even when there are no downloads active in uTorrent ? -
-
Weird. The browser shouldn't lag even if the downloads are at full throttle.
My Browser doesn't lag, even when my download speed is maxxed out in Bittorent. And I normally disable Kaspersky's Firewall when downloading torrents.
But my notebook is hard-wired to the router. Could that make a difference ? -
me the ssame....
-
who is your isp?
-
KPN ( holland )

At times, I noticed the same, so I set the scheduler to have µTorrent run while I sleep.

My ISP is ROADRUNNER. Blazing fast. 8] -
- your ISP, to much TS(Traffic shaping),
- to slow upstream speed,
- to much upstream bandwidth used by utorrent leaving almost none to other apps,
- the TCP/IP driver connections limit(on XP and Vista),
- the port used,
- router with NAT without port forwarding on the port used by utorrent,
- bad configuration on your software firewall,
- to much simultaneously connections configured on utorrent,
- and so on...
Not much variables as you can see - your ISP, to much TS(Traffic shaping),

On my cable internet if I have more than say, 4 concurrent uploads active, my internet will pretty much come to a grinding halt. I have to set an upload cap pretty low (20K) and only allow 2 concurrent uploads. I had to have a long talk with my roommate since he came in and promptly threw utorrent completely unconfigured on the network and it annihilated the connection.

This is typical behavior and generally a problem with the TCP Maximum Connections and/or the TCP/UDP timeout settings within the Conntrack/Netfilter settings on the router. Linksys is notorious for using less that optimal TCP settings which slow the router to a crawl when using BT. My suggestion would be to check to see if your router is compatible with either Tomato or DD-WRT firmware and seeing about doing a firmware upgrade. Most stock firmware dont allow you to change anything regarding the Conntrack settings.
4096 is considered a general sweet spot for the Maximum Connections and 120secs for time wait TCP and 30secs for unreplied UDP. There are other settings that can be tweaked, but these are the main ones that can make a difference.
Also, within utorrent itself (recommended) you can try lowering the global maximum number of connections to around 150-200, which should help as well. Also, put a cap on upload bandwidth to prevent over saturating your asymmetrical connection(Higher down speeds than upload). -
I`ve had this issue on 4 different ISPs, 2 in Europe and 2 in the US.
So there must be more to it... -
Well, try disabling the firewall, and see if it improves anything.
(You could give Port-Forwarding a try as well)
Or, 'upgrade' to Bittorrent.. -
-
So in Preferences, change the Number Of Slots per torrent? Or which one?
Why is it that
