Why is it that program install sizes are incorrect.

For some reason, i went to uninstall some programs under control panel and i noticed that alot of programs i have installed show up as incorrect file sizes.
Most of these are games, but there is some software too, and most things dont even have a file size listed.

For example Street Fighter IV shows up at an install size of 300 mb, RE5 shows up as 500 mb. Star wars the force unleashed (which is 30gb) shows up as nothing.

    Because Windows sucks at approximating?

I don't know the real answer...

Could be something to do with the fact that games generally have multiple folders, and Windows only reads the main one, instead of reading all the files that are scattered in your Appdata and User directory, as well as other various places.

    a) do the proggys work?
    b) does a malware scan show anything?
    c) no harm no foul

My suspicion is that the programme size only refers to the "stuff" in the programme files folder - so if anything is in the user files folder it will not be counted.
I'd generally not really worry about it though, unless you use "suspicious & suspect software" ;)
