I am a long time Firefox user and I have recently started using Opera. I find it the opposite. For me Opera is noticiably faster than Firefox. The interface is a little different and takes some getting used to but I find that it is more convenient for web browsing has more convenience features that are just not to be found in Firefox.

Overall though I find that I like both. In some ways the simplicity of Firefox is great for just quick web perusals, but Opera's more advanced feature set makes navigating more intense browsing sessions a whole lot faster and easier.

Do you mean the actual page download speed, that was what I was referring to. I don't know what it is. I really like Opera(way more professionals looking in my opinion) but I need speed more than looks. Firefox, for me at least seems to have a much faster download speed than Opera or IE 7. Kinda disappointed

I have yet to try the latest firefox, but Opera is far from slow. Have a look at the Browsing and History sections of the Advanced tab to make sure you don't have something wierd accidently enabled.

Personally I like the features and customizability of Opera (without the need for extensions) more than its speed, even though you can't even consider it slow.

Odd? I am on DSL cable internet. I tried clocking the time it takes for IE, Opera and Firefox to open the same web page. I did the experiment several times and the average had Firefox coming first IE second and Opera last. the difference between Firefox and IE was negligible, but Opera was definitely slower.
I was just reading in another thread that you can actually improve the speed of Firefox. Oh well It is really a shame cause I like Opera. I even tried uninstalling and installing it just to see if that was the problem.

That is even stranger. maybe it is the way that the browsers download the web pages. is it possible for certain browsers to work better on DSL than others maybe?

my sys is clean but since all of the web browsers are running on the same computer it should not make a difference right? Right now I have all three on my sys and am not sure what to get rid of. firefox and opera cannot open some web pages that I need, so I have to have IE. still deciding between Firefox and opera though.

    Ignore the Firefox fanboy...

I have no idea why Opera is so slow for you. In the end, it is entirely up to you which browser you want to use. I personally feel Opera is way better than Firefox, but I don't really expect everyone else to feel the same way too.

If you're not liking the lack of additional features in IE when you do have to use it, why not try one of the IE based browsers? I use Maxthon as my IE alternative. While no where near as feature rich as Opera, I still have my mouse gestures and tabs working the way I need it for the couple of pages (ActiveX and AJAX pages) I visit which do not work all that well in Opera.

Opera is Faster cus it doesn't do all of that DNS crap. Exploer sucks for that.

But the Newest Opera does seem a about the same speed as FF2.

Ok now I am really confused, opera is supposed to be faster? I personally had no leaning when I started this thread other than to find out if Opera could be sped up through some software upgrade or something like that. I am really just trying to be subjective. The following is what I have concluded.

    IE7.
(1)Lacks security of Opera or Firefox
    (2)Lacks easy costomization
    (3)Is reasonably fast
    (4)Is excepted by all webpages
    Opera.
    (1)The most secure
    (2)Very easy to customize
(3)Has reasonable speed but slower than IE7 or Firefox
(4)Is excepted by most webpages, but you will have to use another browser if you need nonsupported webpages
    Firefox.
(1)Is a close second to Opera in security
    (2)Fairly easy to customize
(3)Is very fast and can have special programs to improve speed
(4)Is excepted by most webpages and with IE tab can open all

If you have any thoughts on these conclusions feel free to post.

    Opera is the most secure?

    LOL

Try adding the adblock 2, noscript plugins, see which one becomes more secure >_<

    And Opera is the fastest?

Try adding Fasterfox (currently isn't available in FF2), which makes FF faster then... anything.

Way to be a grown-up about it. ;)

I also find Opera to be slower. Like I said in another thread, I like Opera 8, but 9 is just nowhere near as good as Firefox... or IE7.

Ah, the whole purpose of this thread was to find out why Opera is slow. Opera would be my first choice if it could get some of its annoying bugs out. I think the most important factor for a browser have is the ability to support all webpages.
Now I understand that people are naturally bias. But there is no need to bad mouth FF. especially when it might be a better browser than Opera.

You will notice I said it MIGHT be better. I am not saying it is but the possibility is there, if you are objective about it. I was just disappointed that people were badmouthing FF when really it seems to be a very good web browser. My point is don't criticize something if you don't know all of the facts about it, otherwise you may miss out on something really good. I am going to be using FF just because it has the features that I need. The whole reason that there are multiple browser available is because different people need different features. so don't condemn FF just because it doesn't have the features you need. you could be scaring people away from a browser that has all of the features they need in the best package, as was my case.

Hey if girls will argue about which hair style looks best, then I think it is alright for guys to argue about which browser is best.
to be honest I was not trying to be argumentative I was just trying to correct an approach to reviewing an item that often leads to a misunderstanding. sorry if it bothered anyone.
