I got my Vostro today, which came with vista. Although I'm not having any problems with it, I really didn't need a change from XP. There was nothing XP lacked for me, and the performance is better on that any way, so I was planning on getting rid of Vista and replacing it with XP.

Why should I bother staying with Vista?

if you feel you don't like vista, then go with xp. but you should give vista some more time at least. also install all the updates + follow tweaks guide. ever since i've done that, vista has been a much better experience than xp. nuff said.

Use Vista for a while, and if you still want XP, then go for it. :D

I was originally planing to install XP, but after using Vista for a while, I decided it would work fine.

    It's pretty :D

Anyway, unless you have something related to work [or anything important for that matter] that just doesn't work or is completely incompatible with Vista, I suggest you stick to Vista and, as they've mentioned, follow the tweak guides.

Okay, I should mention that I run the 32 bit version of vista. I imagine that's what most of us are running.

The way I see it is that running vista is like a downgrade for your comp. Why? Because you're running a far more resource intensive OS, therefore your current system specs are less impressive. Conversely, if you have good specs, perhaps it's not a bad idea to use Vista. But I just wonder what the advantage is... better OS graphics?

With 2GB's or ram, vista is using about 15 percent of it at standby. I never get near 100 percent ram usage. If you have the resources use it. When are those few extra mb's gonna be necessary.

    Then use XP.

For the love of god, one more Vista v. XP thread and I'm breaking out the nunchucks. With unicorns on them of course.

I should start a poll. What do you hate more? Vista v. XP threads or Xbox v. PS3 threads?

Why don't you downgrade to Windows 95 then, which will be least resource intensive. If you want advanced technology, use vista otherwise downgrade.

Vista is better at using dual core processors. Vista will be slimmed down in the future. And as I said before, vista is not so much of a resource hog that it will hinder performance. It'll just use 1 gb of your RAM rather than 750 MB.

There's no reason to be a Jew about your resources, if you're not using them at the time it's no better than using them. It's like having a car with 500 horsepower but accelerating slowly because you don't want to use it...

without change there will be no progress...
Xp was ok but when i got my vista laptop i marveled in its glory.. vista is awesome to me soo many better things with this OS just the whole interface says a lot.. i admit there are some issues (compatibility) but the rest of the work have to keep up . we're moving forward not backward.

Inkball. I think I spend more time playing that than all of the games that I bought a laptop with an 8600M GT for combined.

Other than that, I think it has a lot of things that have the potential to be useful, even though they currently aren't. It has DirectX 10, which would be great if more programs actually made use of it. It automates a lot of tasks (like defragmenting) which is probably a good idea if it can be made to work without interfering with the user's programs.

As long as you get Service Pack 1 (without which it suffers from copying files taking too long, USB devices having trouble finding drivers and various other nuisances), it is not actually worse than XP and may in fact become better in time.

If, in the future..I ever decide to switch ~ then I will! :)

But for now, this is what I like using? Why change if something is working for you? ;) :D

I think Direct X10 is vista only, but it's up to you whether it's a must have feature or not.

Vista is more resistant to attack, Vista defends against auto-process execution and user mode abuse better than XP-out-of-box as well.
(you can get programs and mods for XP to do the same)

If you tweak both, Xp will be 5-7% faster for FRAPS sessions.

Try Vista, give it a good runthrough, and if you just can't hack it, go back to XP.

Truthfully, I'd rather everyone who just "has" to run as Admin all the time ran in Vista. One less zombie is a good thing.

I had vista on my machine for 5 months. Waited for SP1 to come out and downloaded it. I was reading an article about XP SP3 one morning and my vista machine froze on me! If that isn't a sign I don't know what is. :p I decided then and there that I had enough. Got my old XP disk and "downgraded" from vista to XP. Glad I did. No more little crashes here or freezes there.

Vista is the filler between XP and windows 7. Vista = Windows Millennium Edition.

Here is Bill Gates himself giving you a little hint at what he thinks of vista in a gizmodo interview. Surprisingly honest.. http://youtube.com/watch?v=3a2zqRc1jvs

if its a vostro you are using, try unloading the crap Dell puts on there...

Vista SP1 is rock stable on vostros once you get rid of Dell's bloatware...

umm, vostro comes with almost nothing installed on it besides the OS itself.

and if vista sp1 is rock solid, then xp sp3 is diamond solid. lol

why not have both PC each Vista and XP ?, I don't know about dual-boot Vista/XP much.

right now my laptop (Vista 64) still sitting and haven't boot just yet but mostly I use my old pc with xp pro sp3 do task very well.

I like XP over Vista for many reasons (Speed is noticeable).

it's hard to put good oldies XP down.

maybe MS give us one last drop final XP Pro SP4 in the future depends on user demands and feedback.

We still don't know much about Win 7 anyway, it's same old Vista engines but fine-tuning, trim down services ?, UAC 2 ? fck that !, DRM II ??? doggone !.

We can't afford fall pit-hole too much over anything new OS releases like Win 7 from mistakes from Vista woes even SP1 troubles depends by other users.

I will be damn if MS give us a Anytime upgrades DVD Win 7 for 5 bucks hee hee.
