Hi. I am XP user and I wonder why I have so many sent packets without uploading files. I am just downloading and all the time my sent packets are increasing drastically. For ex: I have downloaded 250 mb for today and uploaded 240 mb( actually I havent uploaded even a single file ). My i-net connection is not unlimited but takes into account the upload traffic and the download traffic as well (7 gb limit per month). Is this normal ? What can I do to reduce the sent packets?

Make sure you check your machine for spyware and viruses. How do you get the download/upload statistics? Do you just look at the statistics? Because that just shows you number of packets, not amount of data (they're not directly correlated). It also counts all data sent over your local LAN of course.

Check out ZoneAlarm (freeware version)...you can shut down your internet connection with the click of the mouse. Norton has that as well, and other software might too.

But yea...check for viruses and the like.

EDIT: Oh do you use filesharing apps? Sometimes when idle they will still allow others to download from you (even the lists of files).

yup, we need more information. You can't download without uploading *some* data, but it's not normally as much as you download. So if you're really uploading that much, something else is uploading. Could be a virus, or it could be some p2p filesharing app. Or it could be you've just uploaded data and forgot about it?

Online games might explain it too. They have to upload data as well.
