I'm a die hard Linux enthusiast and I only use Windows XP because of my college which requires the use of some Windows software. I have never felt the need to "upgrade" to Vista. My question, therefore, is:
Why was it necessary to switch to Vista? Why not stay with XP?
-
To whom are you asking this question?
Most people "upgraded" because they bought a new computer which was only offered with Vista. -
I am asking the people who have had a computer with XP and then switched to Vista.

i was going to stay with XP Pro when I got my notebook without an OS, but I ran into trouble with the SATA drivers for AHCI, so I decided to go with Vista. Now I'm running x64 and I am pretty happy with everything so far. I still use XP for my desktop at home, I regard both of them to be very good OS's.

they exist?..even if they do they dual-booted later..
the Primary way of Marketing Vista was to offer it with new computers...
They (MS) offered a deal which they (comp companies dell, hp etc) couldnt refuse -
One of my laptop has dual booting XP/Vista drive. I actually bough another hard drive for it for emergency and that one is XPMCE. I can just replace the drive instead of installing/reinstalling XP or Vista. So far so good.
Why was the move to Vista necessary?
