In Windows Explorer I dragged a folder from the C: drive to my CD and a few of the files in the folder did not copy.
VERY confused at why most would copy, but not all.
Could size be the reason?
Very important files did not copy.

need to know
what version of windows?
What program are you using to burn the CD?
were they only files, or files nested in folders?
did the files have long names? -
Using Windows Explorer to burn
Files nested in folders
Files had long names. -
Have you tried renaming the files? Have you tried using a different application to copy/burn the files?

Windows XP's packet writing software--where you drag and drop files into EXPLORER window, has a limited number of charachters it can accept in the path statement to the original file.--I think 256?
So a long file name with a long path statement (which you might not be aware of) will result in a non-copy.
Other applications do not have this problem.
Try this: copy the file to your desktop and rename it file.(whatever extension is)
this will result in a shorter path statement like this
c:\documents and settings\{username}\desktop\file.doc
for example.
See if that works. -

You can use a utility called Bulk Rename Utility to truncate all of the long filenames. It takes longer to select the files than to rename them - give that a shot. Or, you can find another CD writing application to see if it will sidestep the long character limitation.

I think the issue is due to the packet-writing nature of Windows XP.
I agree, another program may not have this issue
Why would files from a folder not copy to a CD?
